Although, President Barack Obama participated in an AARP Town Hall to promote his health care reform, his appearance was not a success among members of the powerful AARP. Comments posted by AARP members indicate they are far from assured by Obama or his message. Most comments show a continued distrust of Obama's assurances that Medicare will be protected and that health care will be better.
Baby boomers who now hold a great deal of power in the AARP and among voters, just don't want their entitlements smaller. Never mind, that they are the only group of Americans who have what Obama (and "we the people") really wants universal health care for all Americans. Here is a typical AARP comment,
"I don't care if it is from the democrats or the republicans, the government cannot give us better health care. And more importantly, as soon as we look to government to take care of use we have made a tacit agreement to give the government control over all aspects of our lives. It is like making a deal with the Devil."
The majority of the comments oppose health care reform in the form that Obama has attempted to use, driving down costs by making health care delivery more efficient and giving Americans the option of choosing between private insurers and a government-run plan. The elderly have the same universal health care that is the birthright of people in every developed nation except the United States, and they are doing all that they can to protect their entitlement. Even if it means working to keep that same benefit from other Americans...

I am of age but refuse to join AARP. They are currently a Leftist, agenda-driven Lobby. They can keep their damn movie discounts, nothing in Hollywood worth seeing anyway (’cept Gran Torino)
>> Restless, greedy geezers don’t get the AARP talking points.
I guess not.
They do, however, VOTE. Reliably. In large numbers.
I bet a year ago many of them voted for Bambi and (D) congresscritters. I further bet that if this health care monstrosity passes, most of ‘em won’t make THAT mistake again!
By doing so, those who wish to enslave us through accumulating all power in Washington are meeting strong and unexpected resistance to their massive power grab. This is what the Founders intended when they structured a government (Constitution) for a free people. It required a vigilant and informed electorate.
The following essay, reprinted with permission, is from a 1987 book entitled, "Our Ageless Constitution."
"Although all men are born free, slavery has been the general lot of the human race. Ignorant - they have been cheated; asleep - they have been surprised; divided - the yoke has been forced upon them. But what is the lesson? ...the people ought to be enlightened, to be awakened, to be united, that after establishing a government they should watch over it.... It is universally admitted that a well-instructed people alone can be permanently free." James Madison "America's Constitution is the means by which knowledgeable and free people, capable of self-government, can bind and control their elected representatives in government. In order to remain free, the Founders said, the people themselves must clearly understand the ideas and principles upon which their Constitutional government is based. Through such understanding, they will be able to prevent those in power from eroding their Constitutional protections. "The Founders established schools and seminaries for the distinct purpose of instilling in youth the lessons of history and the ideas of liberty. And, in their day, they were successful. Tocqueville, eminent French jurist, traveled America and in his 1830's work, DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA, wrote:
"On the frontier, he noted that "...no sort of comparison can be drawn between the pioneer and the dwelling that shelters him.... He wears the dress and speaks the language of the cities; he is acquainted with the past, curious about the future, and ready for argument about the present.... I do not think that so much intellectual activity exists in the most enlightened and populous districts of France' " He continued, "It cannot be doubted that in the United States the instruction of the people powerfully contributes to the support of the democratic republic; and such must always be the case...where the instruction which enlightens the understanding is not separated from the moral education.." "Possessing a clear understanding of the failure of previous civilizations to achieve and sustain freedom for individuals, our forefathers discovered some timeless truths about human nature, the struggle for individual liberty, the human tendency toward abuse of power, and the means for curbing that tendency through Constitutional self-government. Jefferson's Bill For The More General Diffusion Of Knowledge For Virginia declared:
"Education was not perceived by the Founders to be a mere process for teaching basic skills. It was much, much more. Education included the very process by which the people of America would understand and be able to preserve their liberty and secure their Creator-endowed rights. Understanding the nature and origin of their rights and the means of preserving them, the people would be capable of self government, for they would recognize any threats to liberty and "nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud." This AARP member says: FUBO!!!!!
Nice of the Examiner to hide their State Run Media connection...........
It’d be swell to see just what AARPers really think. Any way to tabulate legit responses? How did AARP pick the zombies who attended the poser’s infomercial? I’m AARP eligible but wouldn’t joint it if my life depended...
I, too, refused to join. I told them on the phone they were a Lefty organization and all I got was double-talk.
>> I am of age but refuse to join AARP.
Yeah, me too, but only barely (I feel obliged to point that out. :-0 )
Never could figure out what AARP can do for me exactly. And you’re 100% right, they’re 150% socialist.
For cheaper motel reservations, I have my AA card. Or is it AAA. I keep getting those two confused.
I have been thinking about going to see Julia & Julia.
We dropped our membership when the new CEO took over and came up with a new mission statement that was totally socialist. We did not agree with it and told AARP that is why we will not renew.
One need only read the words of Madison, Jefferson and their contemporaries to realize that, while we may now possess technical and scientific knowledge not even dreamed of in the day of the founders, we have lost something far more valuable. Most writing today compares to theirs as a one foot pine seedling compares to a mature redwood tree.
I seldom find room for misunderstanding in the writings of the founders but today we have “judges” who can find license for evil in words that clearly condemn it.
It’s been so long ago now that the AARP began to harrass my wife and myself to join up that they have finally given up it seems. Haven’t heard from them in a number of years which is perhaps the one thing we can appreciate about them.
We think it sucks they have access to the information that led them to our door in the first place.
Yup, It does appear the talking points are to be another lie.
We’d like to see more emphasis in the fight against the disease of Leftism on the lying aspect of their perpetual assaults upon our intelligence. These people of the Leftistsphere need to be exposed for what they are.
Always has been, 17 years ago when I was being hit on to join (at 50 like most of you), I knew it then, it's only gotten worse. Those shuffleboard playing dweebs voted en masse for this clown, don't kid yourself. Now there may be buyer's remorse but I think poster #3 (and many others) has it right.
After my artwork with a Marks-a-lot on their membership request and envelope, I have not received another single piece of paper from them. (black border, skull and crossbones with "SOCIALISTS!" in the middle of the form).
Fight back folks, don't sell your country out for a stupid "discount" at the motel you stay in on vacation or any other "benefit" including their insurance. By supporting AARP you are selling out your country, well, OUR country...
Interesting how all of these groups who were instrumental in getting Obama elected and were fine with him saying anything necessary to win are now getting upset when they discover that he’s lied to THEM too.
You understand, I'm certain, that my point in the previous post is that today's technology is enabling the citizenry to be informed on matters that previously were hidden from them by politicians.
Equally important, technology (the Internet and personal computers) has outstripped the ability of the "censors" to hide the ideas of America's founders.
What the censors have stripped from the textbooks is now online for anybody to read! What one previously would have had to find in the musty stacks in some remote library now can be read by the simple click of a mouse. The religious ideas of America's Founders, so carefully culled and removed from the textbooks and library shelves, can be read by a Google search by word, phrase, or name!
That is scary for the Left, and it is causing them to be nervous and defensive. They may even have to reveal their hand and admit that today's so-called "liberal" positions are not so liberal after all. They are simply "tyranny" called by another name.
Right On! I had to inform my neighbor who for her 1st time voted against Barry but who is a 100% women libber that Pro Choice rules all. She voted McCane because of health care but still belongs to this AARP. We had a discussion last week again on this socialist organization. She still can't follow the dots.
The next time I get a request that I join AARP I am going to write a note not supporting government healthcare and send it back in the prepaid envelope. Let them pay for my opinion.
Hear! Hear! Excellent points! They dare not tell the truth about their intentions.
*groan* Where is the Freeper with the “Not that s**t again” picture? Baby boomers have been blamed for everything else, and now that they are left holding the bag for the Ponzi schemes of Social (in)Security and Medicare, we are being labeled as selfish and greedy.
Boomers have been paying exorbitant taxes for years to support those already on SS and Medicare, and as Margaret Thatcher has said, “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t expect my kids and grandkids to pay taxes to support me and my spouse in our old age. I accept that SS is not going to be the same, and I don’t want Medicare at all, but to blame Boomers for this is just a bunch of crapola.
I could solve the problems of Social Security in an instant - make 106 the age of eligibility for benefits. That’s pretty much what they will do. The money we paid in for years is gone with the wind.
