This is big.
... Not because its Rupert Murdoch who said it (the chairman of News Corp)
Its big because it could set the trend for others to follow.
Murdoch says he plans to charge for all the online content.
(Would I be blogging on this if I had to pay for it? Would you be reading this if you had to pay for it? )
So when will he start charging?

Me too! It will get real interesting around here if everbody does this! We will be talking about what we saw on TV and what ever other source is still around. Of course Murdoch could fall on his ass, but he is probably the best businessman in the field. If anyone can pull this off it is probably him.
I voluntary give to FR, with pleasure, and am now a monthly donor. Other than that, I will not pay for it.

he may be the best in his field but it’s sure taken a looong time for him to announce this.
I’ll bet my dollar on the free sites and the rising revenues on those before I subscribe to any Murdoch site. People are too dissatisfied with how this country is being run and it looks to me that he’s not jumping on the right band-wagon.
People will flock in droves to non-pay sites. They’re (like myself) won’t put up with his crap.
Obama needs to have a one-on-one w/Murdoch and tell him he’s about to grab some tax money out of this old coot-—that’ll make him think twice, won’t it?

If Murdoch makes any money at this all the big sites and wire services will join in fast. They are all hurting for cash. What is left will be bloggers and small timers.
Bad business idea.....no one will pay...too many free news sites out there.
If just one of the three news networks stay free....the FNC pay site is DOA.
We learned this doing our sports website a few years ago. It does not bring in revenue....and this was when the economy was much better
It's not like the internet news will come to an end here.
My understanding is it will not be a $59.99 annual subscription or $3.50 per article but some form of micropayment.
We’ll be reading overseas content, they seem to be doing a better job of covering what’s going on in America than our own media anyway.

LOL! Murdoch might as well announce that he's giving up on having anything to do with this newfangled "Internet" contraption....
And the publishers of Trivial Pursuit might as well prepare the "Rupert Who?" question for their next edition.
