Does President Obama care more about passing health-care reform that truly gets costs under control, or more about getting reelected? Does he care more about getting the nation's fiscal house in order, or more about getting reelected?
Right now, the evidence points to getting reelected. Exhibit A came at Monday's White House briefing: 45 minutes of press secretary Robert Gibbs restating the president's "clear commitment in the clearest terms possible, that he's not raising taxes on those who make less than $250,000 a year."
Duh, some of you may say. Self-preservation is the first instinct of any politician. Breaking promises and raising taxes is a combination that is toxic to electoral hopes, and it's naive to expect Obama to walk the tax plank in the midst of the health-care fight.
Harsh, others might add, or at least, premature. Obama has said that he won't sign a bill that isn't paid for. That's a lot more than George W. Bush did when he charged the new prescription drug entitlement to the national credit card. So give Obama some time to work through the politics and get the policy right.
There are elements of truth in both of these reactions, so let me explain the basis for my frustration.
Obama's position on taxes morphed during the campaign. What began as a plan to roll back the top tier of Bush tax cuts had hardened, by the end of the primaries, into a read-my-lips pledge not to raise taxes on those making less than the magical $250,000 number. Circumstances have since changed. The cratering economy required an enormous infusion of stimulus spending, adding to the staggering debt.

Obama will sacrifice his reelection to pass his radical socialist agenda. Bank on it.
Americans are fed-up with these marxist ideologues and they are speaking out. Too much blood has been spilt over the years defeating such ideologies on the battlefield to let it come here on our own shores without outrage and strong rightous indignation rising up to put it down, once it is clear that is what it is.
And it has been clear for some time.
“...Right now, the evidence points to getting reelected.”
The WaPo can call it “getting reelected” if they want I s’pose, but I call it breaking our Nation, and forcing Socialism to replace Democratic Republicanism. He’s NOT worried about reelection at all as he intends to become a permanent fixture in that house of ours on Pennsylvania Ave.
This article is simply a diversion to redirect our attentions away from their current fiasco.
I believe that too. He is a true radical extremist ideologue fanatic. .
Is this woman so stupid that she actually believes, or accepts the premise, that the government GENERATES revenue? I suppose in that one sentence we see WHY she is a reporter....

This is an absolutely irrelevant question -- I don't know what the Latin word is for it but it's like asking if he'd rather be re-elected or sprout wings.

Yes agree I found it interesting that some of them are at least not treating him as the messiah now though I wonder if they are having misgivings.
It’s all about destroying America. He is a man on a mission.
What elections?
You must be living with the misunderstanding that the U.S. Constitution continues in effect?
