The agreement signed last week between Cuba and a Russian oil company to explore waters in the Gulf of Mexico raises a question that seems almost like a joke - if Cuba can explore for oil and gas off the coast of Florida, how come the United States can't?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR POLITICIANS?
Answer: Liberals.
That was a rhetorical question, right?
One word: ALGORE
Damn, I screwed that up.
Better we should be polluted by commie oil slicks than oil slicks from eeevil capitalist oil companies. Also we shouldn’t feed our addiction to oil. /s
Translated into plain English... communists
Why can’t we? The Democrats won’t let us!
I seem to remember that Carter (one-term wonder) signed a treaty with Russia saying we wouldn’t.
Simple. We have elected a bunch of totally insane Liberals.
The one smart thing that Communist governments do is to send environmentalists to gulags.
Those were the exact words I had in mind.
Cuba’s made a deal with China to drill for oil in the Gulf too, haven’t they?
If the politicians had to really deal with 4-5 bucks a gallon, gas lines and all the other fun things we get to deal with, there would be drilling rigs in san francisco bay.
Well if we drill with all of our safety procedures we will destroy the environment with “oil spills” but, if the people of socialist Cuba drill they can be as wasteful and destructive as they like. See the difference? Its all about environmental/leftist politics.
Because Cuba has a freer economy?
Because we can’t dictate to Cuba what they can or can’t do, but we can dictate to ourselves what we can or can’t do?
am I close?
After that, Cuba contracted with Sherritt of Canada to drill "off the coast of Florida", until Sherritt made the big commercial discovery in 2006.
After that discovery, many oil companies drilled "off the coast of Florida".
The reality is that thru the years and decades there has been exploratory drilling in the North Cuban Basin, but, as yet, no one has drilled any production wells "off the coast of Florida".
