President Obama's VIP healthcare
The Los Angeles Times ^ | August 5, 2009 | Mike Dorning

Reporting from Washington -- When President Obama says he has the best healthcare in the world, he isn't kidding.

The White House medical unit, with a staff of four doctors plus nurses and physicians' assistants, is steps from his office. Treatment is free for Obama and his family (as well as for the vice president and his family).

During the president's travels, a doctor and nurse ride in a limousine in his motorcade. An emergency medical technician comes too, with an ambulance.

Air Force One is stocked with equipment for an on-board operating room. On overseas trips, two medical teams usually travel with the president, one on the plane and one pre-positioned on the ground so the president will always have a rested doctor and nurse at the ready.

The first family receives VIP treatment at military hospitals. And Obama has virtually instant access to medical specialists that few, if any, Americans could duplicate.

"If the president comes to us this morning with a mole on his cheek, a dermatologist will be seeing him today," said Dr. Rob Darling, a retired Navy captain who was a White House physician for President Clinton.

During the Clinton administration, a White House doctor and nurse typically traveled with the first lady when she went overseas separately from the president, but she did not have a medical team embedded in her everyday entourage, Darling said.

A White House spokesman declined to describe the arrangements for Michelle Obama.

The personal physicians and access to military hospitals come on top of a choice of 10 family health insurance options that Obama receives along with all other federal employees.

Whoa, I think I'm detecting an populist undertone in this MSM article. Too bad there's no know cure for advanced liberalism.

FOUR doctors in the WH? At the same time, or is this in shifts?

This is the coverage I demand as a tax payer. Do you think I have a snowballs chance in the hot place of getting it? Some things just stink!

who is paying for this? We, as taxpayers are. Where does it say in the Constitution that we have to pay for this level of care 24/7?

the obmanation says we are broke... then let’s cut back on his health care plan. This is ridiculous, just like everything else about the obamanation...

Don’t be fooled. The media is throwing this out there because they know that people in this country want our president protected and covered. It’s a guilt trip.

I would have been more impressed had this ‘journalist’ reported more about the fact that this is the same plan that these elitist congresscritters are on. The golden plan that they refuse to leave, while at the same time, they are forcing government run healthcare on the rest of us!

I've seen Presidential motorcades in the past, including Clinton's, and I don't recall ever seeing an ambulance. The motorcades didn't include the number of SUV’s traveling with this joker-in-chief. Does he have a phobia or what?

Right on. Gtg, but I wanted to put this out there:

He has an amendment to make Congress comply with any legislation they pass - no chance of passing, but it’s a valiant effort on his part.

We saw President Bush’s motorcade last July, and there was an ambulance.

I am angry, as are many of my friends. However, there is a greater number of fools out there that think I'm a nutcase because they have no idea what I'm talking about. It's like these people are in shock. They refuse to believe that they voted for somebody who will allow them to die.

From the looks of the ‘unruly mobs’(as Obama tries to paint them)....the senior citizens are coming out in force against this hostile take-over of our healthcare.

I am helping my mom get through chemo right now for the second time in two years and believe me, I am worried about her. What people don’t understand(Obots anyway) is that there are alot of private organizations that will help patients with their drug costs. My mom hit what they call the medicare ‘donut-hole’ not too long ago. The donut hole is where the person has to pay 100% of their drug costs until they reach another level($4000.00) of out of pocket expense. It is very hard on folks with fixed incomes, especially ones facing the kind of drug bills that cancer brings. We went through a private cancer care non-profit and they will pay up to 200.00 per month on drug costs, they provide counseling, some supplements, wheelchairs, etc. They don’t get one dime from the federal government.

Of course, the marxists don’t want people to know about these organizations. They want people dependent on government for the obvious reasons. So much so, that Obama and the dems want these groups gone entirely. That’s why they passed the punitive tax on charitable giving this year(right before they made the push for the government takeover).

I worry very much about our seniors right now....indeed our whole country.

Would the President's ambulance necessarily look like an ambulance? I can certainly see why it might not, and why it might look like a "regular" SUV.

in addition to my earlier comments is not only about my parent

i was forced on Medicare and out of my private retirement health ins which i was completely happy with...now the company i retired from will only cover me as secondary...but they only supplement or pay what Medicare covers not what they once covered for procedures and treatments as many of my health issues are not covered by Medicare...so now my secondary retirement health won’t cover it any more.

also i qualified for an HSA for my retirement health expenses and now that i am force onto Medicare i can’t even have a HSA account anymore and all this couple together is costing a great deal more than the retirement health benefits...i am really getting screwed and with my health care cost now much higher...just when i needed the cover...this is all BS...and i had no viable options and didn’t know that until i came of age....soon they will be taking these limited benefits from Medicare and cut our cost to ration to the old and use the monies and the doctors and nurses to handle all the stagers that will be added...legal and illegal

We’re mad as hell, and we are NOT going to take it any more...in the words of the 92 “Heroes” aboard United Fight 93 that crashed in PA on 9/11...”LETS ROLL”

As I write this I am also at my elderly Mom’s house, as she just finished her chemo and radiation treatments for cancer.

I have been talking to all her doctors, other medical personnel, in this process, and what I am hearing from them is scary.

I also have been calling my congressmen, and letting them know my recent experiences with Mom is making me more determined to stand up to their efforts to dismantle the best health care system in the world.

Good luck with your Mom, I hope she does well. I’ll be praying for her.

Prayers for you and your mom as well. I know how difficult it can be. I believe they have been tinkering with Medicare this year in an effort to scare those that are on it, so they can pass the government takeover.

When my mom went through chemo in 2007, she didn’t have near the headaches with them that she does this go round. She didn’t hit the donut hole as soon either.

Again, my prayers for you and your mom. Keep the faith. Keep your mom eating and moving...that seems to make a big difference in outcome imho.
