I agree with you but it is also a big so what to me. Those of us who are veterans know this existed all the time before the fall of the USSR. It was a huge cat and mouse game between submariners on a very deadly level. All the while unknown to the general public on a daily routine.

The fact that this report comes out in the public domain is far more of a concern to me because now they know we are tracking them and can do so with all of their attempts to remain undetected. As long as they thought we were not wise to their presence, the better as it gives them no overriding priority to come up with something new.

Who was President? Whoever it was (Reagan? Carter? Nixon? Hell, even JFK!) was better than who we have now.

I had some friends who alluded to stories like this and they were submariners in the 80’s. They would never some out with details but they had a lot of inside humor.

Apparently, the class of sub is irrelevant to our defense or offense capabilities.
