It had broken in two aft of the conning tower. Several missile silo hatches had been forced open, and the missiles, along with the nuclear warheads they contained, were gone.”

Is this inferring the US got their ahead of the Soviets and appropriated the missiles? 18,000 feet of water, could that have been done?

I think that K-219 sank because they were experimenting or testing supercavitation torpedos like Jeff Head talked about in his books! Anyone else that has read the books agree?
