Ok...this article seems to be designed to be anti-Catholic and is trying to involve the church in worldly political squabbles.

The one holy church is above the political schemes and machinations of this world because we are the on Earth representation of God’s kingdom in heaven.

Miguel D’Escoto is no “leader” of 1.2 billion catholics. Nor is he leader of the church. The Pope is.

The ‘leader’ of every catholic is Jesus Christ and his gospel.

>why the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church, considered by Catholics the personal representative of Jesus Christ, has become an advocate for one of the most corrupt organizations on the face of the earth-the United Nations

Yeah, just what we need,
the socialists are evil,
Alaskan bloggers

are evil, and now
the Vatican is evil.
Just give it a rest!

Yes, indeed, it was clear that the words "world political authority" would set the bees abuzz.

The ugly truth is this: instantaneous global communication has made the world a great, big .... well, community, and hopefully the common root of the words will offer a clue as to why.

Communities will always seek to be ordered and governed -- it's as natural as a bee's buzzing.

Given these two immutable realities, then, the question of a "world politcal body" is logically on par with the question of carrying an umbrella when one goes out into the street hearing thunder.

So then, the alternatives are these: decry and deny the facts, refusing to participate; see the facts and attempt to exploit them; see the facts and attempt to infect the world with the vision of the Founders -- just and limited government.

The Pope, I believe, takes his mandate to "go and make disciples of the nations" seriously. Insofar as the Church speaks on issues of government, it is always to argue the moral imperative for just government.

No government is not an option -- you may wish to reread Lord of The Flies for a refresher on why.

I had a lot of problems with Pope Benedict's encyclical, as did many traditional/orthodox/conservative Catholics. Mostly because of its lack of clarity and ambiguity.

That said, this article is a shrill, vacuous screed.
