Not too long ago, a man in the UK pulled 13 of his own teeth rather than live in agony because the National Health Service didnt have a dentist to treat his chronic teeth problems. His fellow Brits wont have the option of using a pliers on their backs after the most recent rationing decision by the NHS. In order to save £33 million ($55.6 million), the British single-payer system will no longer give cortisone shots for nonspecific back pain despite the effectiveness of the treatment:

Geez, weren’t they giving JFK cortizone back treatments way back in the early 1960’s - and now they have to ban that as “too expensive”??
You will see 1950’s medicine if the government starts controlling all health care.
Wait a little longer and they’ll be having barbers “bleed” people.
One of the problems is the teatments are ridiculously expensive. They’re done in an operating room under anesthesia.
I had to have three, at a cost of $5K each. Of course without them I couldn’t stand, sit or walk without excruciating pain, so they were worth it to me.
But I’d sure like to se the cost closer to $500 than $5K.
For those of us with back problems, this is not an encouraging. Of course, with DeathCare, they just want people to “self-eliminate” anyway!! This is another way to encourage it.
That actually WORKS for me . . . . I have a 1950's back!!!
All kidding aside, government-run "health care" will be like time travel. It will be a giant step backwards in time to about 1970s level medicine.
The NHS currently issues more than 60,000 treatments of steroid injections every year. NICE said in its guidance it wants to cut this to just 3,000 treatments a year, a move which would save the NHS £33 million. The math works out to 57000 treatments for £33 million, or about $1000 per treatment, a lot closer to the price you're looking for.
Still too expensive for the Brits.
Isn’t there a limit to how many cortizone injections you can have?
