This is just an organizational expansion to achieve the goals of Acorn and related community groups. Who gives a rip as long as they are confined to the abyss called New York.
How come my links aren’t “hot” when I try to post them? What am I doing wrong?
Appears to me that someone is trying to start a civil war ...
I looked at it and didn’t see anything outright that made me sit up.
However, that is not what concerns me. What concerns me is these people being paid for with MY tax dollars, working to elect liberals.
I would bet a months wages that these groups are composed of 99.99% liberals, and come election time, that is who they are going to assist.
A key goal of NYC Service is to drive volunteer activity to the issues where New York City’s needs are greatest: strengthening communities, helping neighbors in need, education, health, emergency preparedness and the environment.
Strengthening Communities
Tapping the commitment and energy of New Yorkers to keep our communities strong and quality of life high is a key goal for NYC Service. That’s particularly important given the stresses on neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs due to the national recession. Activities that keep our streets clean, parks green, local arts and cultural groups thriving, and our quality of life high are highlighted here.
Helping Neighbors in Need
New Yorkers have a long tradition of supporting one another in times of need. Due to the national recession, support is needed now more than ever. Volunteer activities that support basic safety-net services, such as food banks; tap legal or financial professionals to help those at risk of losing their homes; and bring care and comfort to seniors, veterans or other populations in need are highlighted here.
Education
Improving our city’s public schools has been a key priority of the Bloomberg Administration-and significant progress has been made. But much work remains-and volunteers can make a critical difference in the life of a student or the performance of a school community. Activities that increase mentoring, particularly among high-needs students in high-needs schools, and that otherwise engage New Yorkers in the larger effort to create the best urban school district in America are highlighted here.
Environment
PlaNYC is an aggressive, multi-pronged initiative to fight global warming and create a greener, greater New York City. But to make further headway, New Yorkers need to go green, too. Volunteer activities that “localize” these efforts in our residential buildings, homes and apartments are highlighted here.
Health
New York has made tremendous headway in addressing a number of critical public health challenges over the past years; in fact, New Yorkers now have a longer lifespan, on average, than the do Americans generally. Volunteer activities that further advance key public health objectives-from increasing flu vaccination rates to combating the scourge of obesity, especially among children-are highlighted here.
Emergency Preparedness
New York City’s readiness has been tested many times over the years-most recently by the attacks of 9/11 and the citywide blackout in 2003. Key to our ability to handle future emergencies is getting more prepared for them now. Volunteer activities that increase business, individual and household “readiness”; equip critical

You don’t find deployment of these youts for Emergency Preparedness or the Aggressive multi-pronged initiative to fight global warming and create a greener, greater New York City daunting?
They showing you the velvet, soon you feel the fist.
You’re quite welcome.
Not knowing is not a problem. Now you know, pass it along.
Of course I find it disturbing. It’s a shame that they’ve managed to turn the term “volunteer corps” into something to be feared, but lo and behold! They’ve done it.
Regards,
Any volunteer here or that anyone has ever known who had a problem getting coordinated? I mean, how hard can it be to think of an area of need that matches your interest, find an organization involved with it and offer up your services?
This is the absolute ultimate in a nonproblem that so obviously had no need for fixing that you just know Obama’s actual motives with it can be no good at all.
OH no! That remark wasn’t addressed to you. Much thanks for posting the details.
The question was to rlmorel, who in a previous response didn’t find anything of concern but for the fact that his and our taxes are paying for these mau-maus.
Oh yeah—must be for some of those Palestinian refugees Obama’s bringing in, they can join PLA-NYC to help improve the ‘environment’.

A New Yorker would have to make $123,322 a year to have the same standard of living as someone making $50,000 in Houston.
In Manhattan, a $60,000 salary is equivalent to someone making $26,092 in Atlanta.
I can guarantee you that 90% of the people who don't follow politics would read that mission statement and find nothing offensive about it.
I don't find anything offensive about it because I understand what is behind all of that and what it really means. But if you show that to damn near any uninvolved person, they would say "Gee, what's so bad about protecting the environment and helping little old ladies across the street?"
They would think you were some kind of nutcase. You and I both see this for exactly what it is, but the people organizing this aren't concerned with you and I. They are concerned with the pliable, uninvolved and uninterested people.
I am reading Saul Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals", and he makes the not-so-risible claim that "...once you organize people around something as commonly agreed upon as pollution, then an organized people is on the move. From there it's a short and natural step to political pollution, to Pentagon pollution."
THIS is what they have in mind, and that was my initial point though I didn't make it well.
On a related note, I have been trying to figure out a way to obtain a copy of Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, because it is the bible followed by Obama and his associates. I have been trying to get it without paying for it, and the copies at the library were backordered for months. To my surprise, one came in.
I am about a third of the way through Rules for Radicals, and I can assure you, reading it tells volumes about the people who profess to following it as a bible, especially the ones pushing this health care bill.
It explains a lot. And none of it is good.
I was going to dictate the entire thing and make an audiobook out of it to give to people such as myself who dont want a single red cent to go to anyone associated with writing, printing or distributing that hideous work, but I couldnt stomach hearing myself read it in a way that would make it easier on the ears to listen to (To put the inflection in the right places means you have to read it as if you believe it, and I gave up after one chapter.)
It is probably one of the most amoral, twisted works I have ever read. Given that Alinsky wrote a dedication to Lucifer, I shouldnt be surprised. The dedication was taken out of later editions so as not to offend the clergy he was attempting to recruit, but the version I have still carries it.
From what I can see, reading this book enables one to understand what makes Obama (and his followers) tick.
The very FIRST paragraph exposes very clearly what they are all about:
"What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. 'The Prince' was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. 'Rules for Radicals' is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away."
It is unrestricted class warfare, pure and simple. And it is the bible of Obama, Clinton, and many MANY others in this country.
