I suspect most of those students received a better education than what many are getting today in public schools.

When I was in high school(1969-1972)the school I attended was ranked #2 of all public schools in the country. In my freshman year, I noticed a decided left wing slant in most of the teachers. One even burned his draft card in front of the class. U.S. History became an elective, not mandatory for graduation.
