Several hundred Bundeswehr soldiers, backed by heavy “Marder” tanks and fighter jets, are currently helping about 1,200 Afghan National Army forces conduct major anti-terrorist operations near the Taliban stronghold of Chahar Dara, southwest of the city of Kunduz, where the bulk of Germany’s roughly 4,000 troops are stationed.
The fighting--which started on Sunday and involves looking for Taliban / Al Qaeda fighters “village by village and house by house”--is expected to go on until at least next week.
The Bundeswehr soldiers are part of the German-led NATO Quick Reaction Force (QRF), which provides force protection and serves as emergency back-up for Alliance troops.
Finally, as German media have pointed out, the current Afghanistan offensive marks the first time since the end of WW II that Germany’s soldiers are again involved in major ground combat operations.

I agree completely, especially considering how much the US dollar and US treasury notes are going to drop in value after Obama’s tenure. As much as it pains me to say it, but I could see the Euro and German bonds becoming more of a cornerstone of international finance (instead of US instruments) post-Obama, unless something drastic changes in the 2010 elections.
What the Taliban and al-Quaeda need is an old-fashioned Blitzkrieg. They’ll never know what hit them.

Agreed. The Germans and Japanese have proven their ability to fight. Time to let them pull their share as world powers.
Had the same problem when I was in Germany. You should be able to find something at a store nearby to solve the problem. I forgot what the name of it is, but it is basically wolverine piss. Get a bottle and spray it around the underside of your hood and it will keep those little bastards away.
IMHO, Germany wins hands down. For now.
But I dunno how they're gonna manage a resurgence with a declining population, though. Heck, all of Europe has that problem. We would, too, if it weren't for immigration. That's one reason I believe that abortion has crossed the line from being a "mere" moral depravity to a national security issue.
