This is not to be disrespectful, but I read people around here writing that when the Temple is rebuilt, the End Times will be near - is this correct?

Those who believe this hold to the DISPENSATIONAL view of Biblical prophecy ( see Wikipedia for explanation ). Since Dispensationalism is currently the most popular view among the Christian churches, then the answer to your question is -- YES. MANY Christians believe that when the temple is rebuilt, the End Times will be near.

But please remember, there are many other Christians who hold to different views of prophecies.

Since I'm one of those that hold to a different view point I concur with your statement.

It's my opinion and the opinion of others that there are many famous and rich end time writers that get very rich by producing new end times books every time there is great political upheaval in our society. I'm sure a few of these writers have the basic outlines of their new books just on computers just waiting for the next military conflict to happen in the middle east or nearby. All they've got to do is add a new chapter about the conflict and do some editing and get the book printed and then sit back and watch the money roll in.
