“Whether Oklahoma counts as Southern or Midwestern seems to depend on whom you ask—the original settlers (not counting the Indians, many of which had been involuntarily relocated there from elsewhere) were from all the surrounding states as well as from further afield. Lots of Kansans.”

Correct and Vice-Versa. Northern Oklahoma has a shared cultural and Economic bond with Kansas, especially Wichita.

I live in Wichita and a good number of people here have roots or branches in Southern Oklahoma. More so than they typically do with Missouri or Nebraska. Colorado, for all purposes is basically considered ‘another country’ in these parts.

Tulsa and Wichita also have many connections, a friendly rivalry and common bonds.

Oklahoma is as much Midwestern as it is Southern. To compare it to South Carolina is disingenuous.
