Irish Travellers (Irish: Lucht siúil) are a traditionally nomadic people of Irish origin living predominantly in Ireland, Great Britain and the United States. Among themselves, Travellers refer to themselves as "Pavees" . Derogatory terms are sometimes used to refer to them by non-Travellers, such as "pikeys" and "knackers". In Irish, Travellers are called an Lucht Siúil (literally, "the walking people"). Many non-Pavee people still use the term "tinkers" from the Irish tincéirí, sg. tincéir for "tinsmith."
