It's not muslimizing. The apostrophe represents a glottal stop to aid in pronunciation and natives of Hawai'i use it quite frequently as do many other languages in transliteration. That doesn't mean "Hawaii" is less acceptable.

I knew somebody was going to post gobbledygo'ok like this.

I've been around a long time, champ. There are definitely more apostrophes around now than when I was growing up.

Just because you may not have informed yourself on the subject does not make it gobbledygo'ok. I'm sincerely sorry your world has changed so dramatically as to add more apostrophes since you were growing up. It must be truly devastating. ;)

Seriously, though, the world is a smaller place and we are in contact on a daily basis with far more nationalities and cultures now than in the past. There's a strong chance when you see Hawai'i written in that manner that the writer is a native of the state. If you had grown up there, it would not seem strange at all to see both spellings.
