Obama still cashing in on Bush's failings
The Washington Times ^ | July 29, 2009 | Joseph Curl

Facing the first real rough patch of his presidency, President Obama and his supporters are once again resorting to a tried-and-true tactic: attacking George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

In his White House press conference last week, Mr. Obama referred to the Bush era at least nine times, three times lamenting that he "inherited" a $1.3 trillion debt that has set back his administration's efforts to fix the economy.

With the former president lying low in Dallas, largely focused on crafting his memoirs, Mr. Obama has increasingly attempted to exploit Mr. Bush when discussing the weak economy, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the difficulty closing the military prison at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

As he took power, Mr. Obama promised a "new era of responsibility" that would transcend partisan politics.

THIS is why RNC failed President Bush, and has continued to FAIL in its responsibilities. The current financial mess was caused by the long foreseen and predicited meltdown of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, two Democrat programs that had spiraled out of control.

Over a dozen times, President Bush warned these programs needed reform. Finally, in 2004, there were congressional hearings. In those hearings, Maxine Waters forcefully defended Fannie Mae chairman Frank Raines. A short time later, Frank Raines was found to have committed fraud and forced out.

All Democrats on the committee angrily denounced the Regulator who showed up to testify that reforms were needed. One of them even cussed him and questioned his credibility "since it is clear there is nothing wrong with Fannie Mae".

LESS THAN TWO YEARS LATER... the housing market, bulging with unsustainable housing loans made to people who could not afford them, began to crumble. Just a few weeks before election day, in 2007, the housing market let out a final gasp and died, and then the financial institutions fell on their face

Today, 54% of Americans still believe this Democrat debacle was the fault of Bush!! (recent Rasmussen Poll

WHEN, I say, WHEN will somebody inform the American people where the real responsibility lies in this tragedy? The CSPAN archives are FULL of tapes from the 2004 hearings, showing Democrats loudly defending Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and blocking all attempts to reform.

Reminds me of the old excuse.

Entertainer is talking to his manager after the show.

“Did you get a load of how bad that guy before me was? Half way through MY set, they remembered just how bad he was and they started booing!!!”

Yep! Your post is spot on! Hard to believe that the Republicans allow the Democrats to hang the tanked economy around their necks. Shameful.

People with courage accept their faults and mistakes. Cowards cry “it was his fault” no matter what goes wrong

This should get your blood boiling. A DNC ad saying the Republicans broke the economy but won’t fix it...

The disdain for Bush was so incredibly magnetic that Obama will be riding its coattails for a while, unfortunately.

Until the brain dead wake up, unlikely, they will accept Zero’s excuses for as long as he’s willing to feed it to them.

However, there will be enough people who are sick of the politics and brainless defenses of the administration that it will begin to make Obama squirm. We’re seeing it in his polls. They may not believe Bush was ever justified, but will grant Obama the same judgement.

As far as I am concerned they all stabbed President Bush in the back including some right here on FR.

To be honest, even though it is the Rats fault, they’re going to do what they do, Bush could have been more forceful and ended all that “new tone” garbage. The Rats have been the party of treason and fraud for a long time but Bush kept trying to work with them instead of using his position to defeat them. It would have been hard and he already had a difficult job but it would have been worth it.

Obama is “crying wolf” too much and when you do that people stop listening. It is happening now and people blame Obozo for the worsening mess.

It's NOT the President! It's the CONGRESS that's the problem:

Now, I ask you, just WHO was in the Senate since 2005? It wasn't President Bush, was it? No, it was PRESIDENT OBAMA. President Obama not only PASSED the current $1.8 trillion deficit budget as a Senator (meaning he could actually work to craft and change the budget bill), he signed it as President!

This deficit was created by then-Senator Obama, and signed into law by now-President Obama. It's his, and his alone.

Maybe it was Bush’s imprisoning of a couple Border Patrol agents as a sacrifice to his globalist vision. Or what else, growing the government more than any other president until now.

His long list of abuses are why some people of FR have antipathy for that Socialist-lite.

Democratic Party strategist Liz Chadderdon said the strategy of blaming the previous team has been effective. "I think Bush-bashing has been alive and well since '07 and, since it keeps working, why not use it?" she said. "Voters have short memories. The administration needs to remind people that things were way worse over the last four years than in the last six months."

Read last sentence. Well, I had a job 6 weeks ago and now I'm searching and nobody is hiring in a field that was flourishing 9 months ago. Gas was $1.60 six months ago. The dems just kill me.
