We did support Afghans during 1979-89 when Russia invaded their country but the Russians withdrew in early 1989.

Who said we didn't. In fact my excerpt said so.

I said, that since during that time he trained in guerrilla camps there, he was not US military. The US military and its military contractor may train others in guerrilla camps but they are NOT trained there.

I thought you missed my point. But if you were saying he went there after the Russians left & we stopped the training, then I missed yours.

In any case the US miliatary didn't send him to be trained in Muslim training camps during the 1989-1992 time frame.

In fact, noting his age, 39, he was 19 at that time and would not have enough military background to have been sent on any kind of training mission.
