Nothing but Helium and Neon are totally inert.
I think food dyes are tested and with massive doses never have shown any hint of negative effects or harm. At the minute quantities normally used they can be assumed to be absolutely safe, as far as we know.

Most of them are not ever absorbed and are excreted with the rest of the stuff the body can’t use; it comes out in the solid waste. If you eat anything with a lot of food coloring this is often obvious. Especially if you have a baby and have to change the diapers!

I’ve occasionally seen infant thrush (yeast infection in the mouth) treated with Gentian Violet.

I thought these food dyes were supposed to be inert... but they can medicinal/drug effects?? Thats actually a cause for concern.

Good point. Spooky - but good.

In newborn infants and young children, there are a large number of Peyers patches in the intestines. They're bluish. As a person ages, these patches disappear. At death, a person may have a few left (but virtually unnoticeable), and some have none.

There's a good chance the blueberries, (maybe because of the combination of the blue and the acid) revive these patches. They do seem to be age related.

I happen to have a very bad reaction to some blue dyes used in stuff like shampoos, body washes, dish soap etc. It causes me to have a severe “sun rash”.
It took me quite a bit of trial and error to figure out what was causing me to swell, turn red and crack and peel on my hands and face but finally narrowed it down to stuff with blue in the mix and now I tan nicely.

It is well known that certain food colorings cause hyperactivity in children. Just do the research you’ll find the articles.
