There are some problems with your logic. Had Clinton NOT been impeached Gore likely would have been elected. Had Clinton been convicted he also would have won.

Elected Republicans should spread doubt about Urkle’s legitimacy at every opportunity and insist that there must be fire where there is smoke. While we should keep fanning those flames the party should not distance itself from the questions. There is nothing unreasonable about asking that the birth certificate be provided nor with pointing out his refusal to do so.

I agree about fanning the flames at the grassroots. But congressional Republicans should only get involved if legitimate evidence surfaces. They ought only act once it is ripe and critical mass is achieved, if that ever comes to be. If they start leaning too far forward on this issue — which so far lacks any legitimate merit — the media and 0bama team will run with it, using it to distract and discredit at every opportunity. And Republicans will be the ones punished in the end.
