Oklahoma City druggist Jerome Ersland's record in doubt:
The Oklahoman ^ | 7/26/09 | NOLAN CLAY

Posted on 07/26/2009 11:17:10 AM PDT by Two_Sheds

A pharmacist charged with murder told police he had killed before, while overseas in the first Gulf War. But according to his military records, he was never there.

Instead, Jerome Jay Ers-land spent the war in 1991 as the pharmacy chief at the military hospital at Altus Air Force Base in southwestern Oklahoma, records show.

Ersland fatally shot a robber May 19 at the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in Oklahoma City.

The shooting attracted national attention when prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder, alleging he went too far while defending himself. Military veterans rallied to his support after he described himself as an Army veteran injured during Operation Desert Storm. He told The Oklahoman in May he hurt his back during a mortar attack.

Significant because he is claiming PTSD as part of his defense.

He should say he will reveal his service papers when Obama reveals his birth certificate! LOL.

You said — Looks like they cracked this nutcase.

You could tell he was a nutcase from viewing the videos that were on the news. The guy walks out of the pharmacy shooting at one guy (out into the parking lot), after having already shot the other guy that was down on the floor.

Then he comes back in, steps over and around the guy on the floor, goes past him again, gets another gun further on down the counter (quite a ways down...) and then returns to the guy on the floor and proceeds to pump five more bullets into him (obviously wanting to *insure* the guy was dead... LOL...).

So, if someone couldn’t tell they had a *nutcase* at that time, then they are a bit blind... :-)

It’s all on video, too... I mean, you’ve got to be a “nutcase” on just one thing alone... thinking that while all the videos are running, you can casually walk over and pump five more bullets into a guy to make sure he’s dead... LOL...

Good video at that site (of the article) showing how the guy goes and gets another gun and proceeds to come back and pump five more rounds into the perp on the floor — then proceeds over to the phone to call the police.

I’ve heard other FReepers say that if you shoot a guy like that, you need to go over to the guy when he’s down and out — and make sure he’s not breathing any more and pump a few more rounds into him — before — you call the police, so the guy can’t say anything about what happened... LOL...

I guess that pharmacists must have read those posts here on Free Republic... :-)

What a whack case.

“Allied forces invaded Iraq and Kuwait on Feb. 24, 1991. Fighting ended four days later. One record specifically reflects Ersland was at Altus Air Force Base on Feb. 25, 1991.

Hours after the robbery, Ersland told police he suffers PTSD “from being in the Gulf War,” a detective reported.

“He said, ‘I killed a lot of people there, but I had to do it. I dream about it every night.’ Ersland said he got hurt there (Gulf War) and that was why he was wearing the medical back and front brace,” the detective reported.

The detective quoted Ersland as saying, “So, I have killed a number of people with a .50-caliber” and “I was a platoon leader from Fort Bragg.” The detective reported Ersland said he was in the Army until he got hurt and then the Air Force let him join because there was a high demand for pharmacists.

Ersland left the Army in February 1989, well before the Gulf War, records show. His first assignment after joining the Air Force was the Altus Air Force Base hospital.”

He should say he will reveal his service papers when Obama reveals his birth certificate! LOL.

Too late, unlike The Imperial Messaih's long form birth certificate, his records have made it into the public domain, for all to see. Whatever happened to "privacy". Guess it only applies to some animals.

We need to find out who got and released this guys private records, and send him to get those of Ketchup Man and The One.

Before anyone says this is a criminal matter, and the records could have been suppoened, I'll observe that yes, the records could be gotten as part of a criminal investigation, but they are still private records, and are not releasable to the public, certainly not before the trial. Right now, he's only accused, not convicted. For most purposes, the law must presume he is innocent.

he guy walks out of the pharmacy shooting at one guy (out into the parking lot), after having already shot the other guy that was down on the floor.

He shot the guy that was later down on the floor in the opening melee, when the other guy was clearly pointing a gun at the pharmasicist.

He never shot at the guy who ran outside.

When he came back he went to switch to the smaller gun, then as he walked back to check on the one that was down, he suddenly, not casually, sort of "starts", then shoots the first guy again.

Some of that cannot be seen very well from the camera angles shown, but it is more clear in the angle taken from the left front of the view shown of the inside of the pharamacy. You get a better look at the grabbing of and firing of "The Judge" from that angle as well. "The Judge is the name of a particular, and very distinctive looking, revolver, chambered for .410 shotgun shells and .45 (long) Colt. The second gun is much smaller than the big revolver.

The testimony of the two witnesses, two lady pharmacy helpers, only one of whom can easily be seen in the video shown, will be very important.

I'm having trouble with my html the last couple of days. The first section should have been in italics

I'm going to withhold judgement on the case until all the facts come out. The autopsy showed the head wound wasn't fatal, but a "grazing" wound. I'd like to know exactly the severity of that wound and how likely it was that the perp would have regained consciousness. It seems to me right now that it is likely that he may have been coming around as Ersland came back into the store. But that doesn't answer the question as to why he felt safe enough to step over him without kicking the backpack away.

But he does sound like a troubled person. I'm hoping the jury is sympathetic to that.

Well, one thing for sure.... he did make sure the guy was dead, first, by pumping another five rounds in him on the floor... LOL...

I guess that’s one way to make sure the guy doesn’t talk before you call the police... :-)

Here are some of his earlier claims, people forget that he claimed to have been wounded in a desperate shootout and was wearing a bandage over the wound until the police made clear that he was the only one that had fired a gun. When you watch the video you realize that the guy is totally fantasizing and making it up up and lying.

Video:

Throw these claims in with his phony war hero stuff and you have a real nutcase.

>The robbers began shooting at him, with one bullet grazing him on the arm, he said he heard another round whiz past his ear.

Ersland recalled: “All of a sudden, they started shooting. They were attempting to kill me, but they didn’t know I had a gun. They said, ‘You’re gonna die.’ That’s when one of them shot at me, and that’s when he got my hand.”

Ersland grabbed the semi-automatic Kel-Tec .380 in his pocket.

“And that’s when I started defending myself,” he said. “The first shot got him in the head, and that slowed him down so I could get my other gun.”

Ersland also kept a much larger pistol in a nearby drawer, which he was able to retrieve, a Taurus Judge revolver. At that point, the second robber took off. However, the other robber was now getting up off of the floor, despite the head wound.

Ersland emptied his clip into the chest of the wounded robber, who turned out to be 16-year-old Antwun Parker.

“I went after the other guy, but he was real fast and I’m crippled,” said Ersland. Once outside, he saw a third black male sitting in a car with what appeared to be a shotgun.

Ersland said: “I pulled out my ‘Judge’ and pointed it right between his eyes and he floored it.”

>””All of a sudden, they started shooting,” he said. “They were attempting to kill me, but they didn’t know I had a gun. They said, ‘You’re gonna die.’ That’s when one of them shot at me, and that’s when he got my hand.”

Ersland said he was thrown against a wall, but managed to go for the semiautomatic in his pocket.

“And that’s when I started defending myself,” he said. “The first shot got him in the head, and that slowed him down so I could get my other gun.”

But as one robber hit the floor, Ersland said, a bullet from the other robber whizzed past his ear.

The pharmacist said he then got his second gun from a nearby drawer, a Taurus “Judge.”

After he had the big gun, Ersland said, the second robber ran.

But as he started to chase after the second robber, Ersland said, he looked back to see the 16-year-old he had shot in the head getting up again. Ersland said he then emptied the Kel-Tec .380 into the boy’s chest as he kept going after the second robber.

“I went after the other guy, but he was real fast and I’m crippled,” Ersland said.

Outside the pharmacy, he said he saw what he thought was a third black male in a car with the engine running and reaching for what appeared to be a shotgun.

“I pulled out my ‘Judge’ and pointed it right between his eyes and he floored it,” Ersland said.

He isn't helping his case. His attorney needs to put a muzzle on him.

If the story is true ( we need to be careful here, the media will all too readily demonize any citizen who shoots a young criminal), he is a liar and that is not good. That said, it probably was a good shooting. He did not wake up that morning planning to kill anyone. The violent criminals erupted into the store, terrifying employees and brandishing a firearm. In any case, even pathological liars can sometimes do the right thing. Innocent!

The main problem with this is that his entire defense rests on the jury believing his testimony that the perp was regaining consciousness, and was a danger. If these records, along with his earlier inconsistent stories make it into the trial, it will hurt his chances.
