Have not seen all segments/interviews; but what I have seen; there has been no mention that this was not first 'break-in' call received for this address. At bottom of police report Croweley mentions that Gates offers - as he departs; to the effect that door does not close properly because of a prior break in.

Find this amazing; as it clearly indicates how much more 'over the top' Gates response was on what was not a 'first occasion' for confusion at his home.

Or perhaps; Gates was just adding noxious oil to an already blazing flame and/or was writing his next book out loud?

That whole bit about the door not securing has me confused.

First, the neighbor calls in saying that two black men were ramming the door with their shoulders to get in, presumably because it was locked.

Second, Gates says that it was he and his chauffer, because he had forgotten his keys (presumably the door was locked).

Finally, he tells Crowley that the door cannot be secured because of a previous break-in attempt.

If a previous break-in attempt prevented the police from securing his home, then why was he trying to break the door in because of forgotten keys? The door, presumably, was not securable because of a prior break-in attempt.
