There are many reasons most Dr's (even in the U.S.) would not want to operate on an 83yr old....which were adequately outlined in the article.

With that said....the emphasis here should be on having to wait an entire year to get a diagnosis. What a shame..

This is anecdotal, but it’s true.
My aunt’s hip broke when she was 90 years old. We prepared ourselves for the predictable outcome— death. Well, she had hip surgery, recovered and was mobile until she died at age 99.
You just never know.
