"No antibiotics to fight the flu caused pneumonia back then." Influenza is a virus, whereas antibiotics treat infections from germs. Or am I mistaken? Any medical personnel here?

I didn’t say antibiotics for influenza. I said antibiotics for pneumonia, an oppertunistic bacterial infection that gets a foothold on the flu weakened lungs.
It (Pneumonia) nailed me after I had a commnon cold for a week.

You are correct. Secondary bacterial infections are possible but you have to get sick from the flu first, so the premise is still flawed.
Btw, I am volunteering here in Seattle to be a test subject for the new flu vaccine.
