The answer to that is supposed to be a stolen guns database. It only contains records of guns known to be stolen. It’s a good idea to keep the serial numbers of your weapons for that reason. In theory you should be able to recover a stolen gun if the cops recover it.
Hmm... you might be right about that, but I’m not so sure.
How does the DOJ make sure that the “right” person petitions to get his gun back? I’ve gone through this. You fill out a form with basic information and they send you a document entitling you to pick up the firearm.
If they didn’t ALREADY have a record putting YOU and the gun together, then ANYONE could send that form in and claim ownership.
What am I missing?
