“One cannot be a liberal and have a high IQ.”

However, one can be a *default* liberal and have a high IQ.

What I mean by “default liberal” is a person who is a liberal because everyone around him is, and because the media tell him he must be, but who has not brought any intellectual rigor to bear on the matter.

If such a person were as quick to understand philosophy as he is to grasp his scientific field, he would easily see that leftist thought is fatally flawed. Since he assumes, wrongly, that he is as quick to understand philosophy as science, he reasons that, if leftist thought were fatally flawed, he would easily see the flaws.

His passions lie elsewhere, his time and resources are limited (as are everyone’s), everyone around him approves of his liberalism, he enjoys liberalism’s assumption of moral superiority, and his examination of the philosophical questions involved in leftism’s war against mankind ends right there.

Ecce, the default liberal.

Brilliantly nuanced, dsc! Its the cluster theory at work. The impulse to be like one's peers is powerful.
