CNN president kills birther story

TVNewser reports that CNN President Jon Klein has declared a halt to birther coverage -- a tacit shot at Lou Dobbs.

Klein forwarded Dobbs's producers a memo under this heading, which I suspect won't calm the conspiracists:

Since the show's mission is for Lou to be the explainer and enlightener, he should be sure to cite this during your segment tonite. And then it seems this story is dead - because anyone who still is not convinced doesn't really have a legitimate beef.

I read somewhere recently that his mother is alive and well and living under an assumed name in Hawaii because she and her mother were famous for their money-laundering techniques.

Exactly. It should still exist (if it ever existed) since legal documents aren’t willy nilly destroyed. Because all the big thick books were taking up room and the older ones were beginning to fall apart, there was a project back in the 80’s to scan everything onto microfilm/fiche. The original documents were placed into storage. Now days they’re probably moving everything again but this time to computers.

If I were inclined to believe in widespread conspiracies, the “Build-a-buggers” (LOL...), the Illumati and the Council of Foreign relations, all being the shadow government and that Presidents (Republican or Democrat) are merely puppets — I might say in answer to you that “they” put him in office... LOL...

However, I think it was 10 million more liberals voting for Obama than conservatives who put him in office.

Our biggest problem here in this country are the voters who put these guys in office... :-)

I think I may have been misinterpreted - I meant someone needs to show Klein the Clown the press release from the Hawaiian Dept. of Health saying that the original birth certificate WAS in their possession, so where does this “destroyed” story of his come from??

In November 2008 the Director of Health for the State of Hawaii said they had his original long form and that she saw it. Yet CNN says it was destroyed in 2001?

I was a principal consultant to state and federal government agencies fror 25 years. My expertise was Very Large-Scale Data Architectures, and I can tell you one thing, governments don't throw official documents out.

Hawaii may have gone "paperless," but that doesn't mean they carted out millions of "real" birth certificates and put them into an incenerator.

They're around somewhere. They have to be, because of this recent statement from state health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino:

"Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."

Also, as of June 8, 2009, The Hawaiian certification of live birth (COLB) the Obama Campaign posted on the Internet as proof of his eligibility would not have been accepted for eligibility for some Hawaiian state government programs.

The following was "cut-n-pasted" from the DHHL website on June 8, 2009 (and I could kick my ass for not caching this):

There are two categories of documents used in determining eligibility: primary and secondary.

Primary Documents

The primary documents used to show you are of age and a qualified native Hawaiian are:

A certified copy of Certificate of Birth;
A certified copy of Certificate of Hawaiian Birth, including testimonies; or
A certified copy of Certificate of Delayed Birth.
You will need the certified birth certificates for:

Yourself
Your biological father; and
Your biological mother
The state Department of Health, (DOH), Vital Records Section, records documents by island and district (geographically) and by the date of the event (chronologically).

If your biological parents' documents don't clearly prove that you have at least 50 percent Hawaiian ancestry, you will also need certified birth certificates for:

Your biological father's parents; and
Your biological mother's parents.

In order to process your application, DHHL utilizes information that is found only on the original Certificate of Live Birth, which is either black or green. This is a more complete record of your birth than the Certification of Live Birth (a computer-generated printout). Submitting the original Certificate of Live Birth will save you time and money since the computer-generated Certification requires additional verification by DHHL.

Between 6/8/09 and 6/18/09, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) changed the requirements for identification. Sometime, in those 10 days, someone rewrote the webpage and changed the policy above. Hawaii will now accept Certifications of Live Birth (COLB) as proof and will no longer require certified "birth certificates," although they will still take the traditional birth certificates.

A coincidence? Suuuuuuuuure!

It’s all consistent with what has been said. “Paper” was discarded back in 2001, an image file is there, the original long form was seen on the computer... verifying it was “there”...
