I will certainly say it wouldn't have been my choice of words, but given the fact that DeMint and Talent (for the years Talent was there), fought hard and long, introduced bill after bill to try to draw the Congress into a debate of the failures of our health care system. Whenever Pubbies would try to wring the waste out of Medicare (and there's a truckload of that), they would be roundly denounced as trying to kill off granny. I understand his frustration (especially since then Senator Obama voted against DeMint’s health care reform).
It's hard to watch as this horrific piece of crap legislation is actually being debated and pushed after all the years of head banging DeMint, Talent and others similarly motivated underwent.

Republicans came up with this idea, one of the great selling points (I thought) was the catastrophic portion that would cover a person who found himself in a situation where he needed expensive care, surgery, chemo, etc., but his personal bank account didn't cover it. In a way, wasn't that government health/emergency insurance? Anyhoo, you're correct, Dems shot down any and all efforts to correct the ills in the system time and time again, my contention is that first, they would not have received the credit and second, it didn't go far enough to garnering control over the lives of Americans.
