The Cambridge cop prominent Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. claims is a racist gave a dying Reggie Lewis mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in a desperate bid to save the Celtics [team stats] superstar’s life 16 years ago Monday.

“I wasn’t working on Reggie Lewis the basketball star. I wasn’t working on a black man. I was working on another human being,” Sgt. James Crowley, in an exclusive interview with the Herald, said of the forward’s fatal heart attack July 27, 1993, at age 27 during an off-season practice at Brandeis University, where Crowley was a campus police officer.

Doesn't matter. The "professor",represented by one of the filthiest lawyers in the country (Oglitree) will sue...and win.And when the dust has settled the cop will receive some kind of discipline.

This *is" Massachusetts,after all.

I have said before this was a set up. Gates deliberately provoked the officer and now is milking the I am a victim of racism game for all it is worth. I really feel for Sgt. Crowley, so many people are too stupid or too blinded by ideology to see what really happened. “You don't know who your dealing with” and other insults and threats screamed at the top of his lungs and then the fake whining about how he is a victim. The sad thing most politicians are despicable cowards who will not stand up for the officer.

Yep, now the ‘victim’ will get revenge. Best analysis I read was posted here: http://notionscapital.wordpress.com/2009/07/21/tumultuous-behavior-crime-wave-in-cambridge/

Sir Gnome Says:
July 22, 2009 at 12:59 am
“It’s not illegal to yell at a cop. It just isn’t. True, it may not be smart…. But it’s not illegal.”

…thus begging the assertion that one *should* be disorderly toward police officers, in full view of the fact that the safe decorum for doing so is secured by the very person you’re yelling at?

The worst part of this whole incident is 1) the inevitable snowball effect of an incident for which there is incredibly limited circumstantial evidence, and yet for which all seem perfectly willing to assert a priori conditions of racial inequality 2) the ineptness of the “gown” class in interpreting and dealing with heated situations without the egomaniacal inclination toward enlarging said situations into grand-scheme historical narratives.

The facts are, a hapless police officer responded to a call in a manner befitting the rote protocols of his/her duties. However wrongly or not in hindsight, he was leaning on the rote schemas of law enforcement, and Gates knew this. And any person with a scintilla of experience in the material social conditions that the rest of us face knows that disorderly conduct charges are a frequent hazard, highly subjective by definition, and thus a common tool used by police officers to remove recalcitrant actors from excited situations.

As a professional, Gates absolutely failed in his professional obligation to account for the officers understanding of such a situation, and to communicate a resolution. All of the commentary out there tends to imply that there were no such alternatives, but instead that such an isolated an easily-averted incident are the tentacles of institutional racism, the Milgram-effect of preening “cops” with too much power who will take away your skateboards and spray cans and poison your kittens and cancel recess. It’s the excluded middle sandwich: all bread and impossible to swallow.

I just can’t believe how aptly we impose this cultural logic of race, inequality, and pop-liberalism on such particular incidents, which began when everyone fecklessly presumed the officer was white, seemingly because it fit the narrative symmetry of the cultural logic at hand. Friggin embarrassing. It’s the B-level stuff of the Scary Movie comedies.

Now that “The One” has weighed in on it, this Officer will be hounded until he resigns—and then some. They are probably drafting the Ethics complaints now. He will need a legal defense fund before all is said and done.

Professor Gates was unable to accept that this white police officer was acting in his ultimate best interest. He was unable to escape the clutches of his own congenital racism and see the event as the simple misunderstanding that it so clearly was.

This suggests to me a profoundly disturbed individual.

Gates is just another affirmative action recipient who has parlayed his skin color into a fortune and hopes to continue to do so to get back at Whitey for constantly-perceived injustice. Were he not Black, it is unlikely that he would be where he is today.

Gotta correct you here. The sad thing is that most politicians in the City of Cambridge and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts *agree* with and *support* the "professor" in this case.I hope you don't think that Hussein is the only "progressive" out there who wants the cop in question fired...all cops in Cambridge to undergo "sensitivity training"...and the City of Cambridge to pay the "professor" millions.

Is one view better than the other?. Either he left out facts and lied or he made up his own facts to suit his story.

Either is a lie. He should have just kept his mouth shut.Stated he didnt know the facts and that it was an ongoing case and let it be. His desire to jump on a white police officer to come to the aid of a black friend was too great. One of the things that is wrong in the black community. Whitey is always wrong when dealing with blacks.

I heard an interesting statement this morning when it was reported that the guy was assisted by “his driver”......In other words, this university professor has his own private chauffeur? Paid by whom, the professor or the university?

A lot of people might not know it but at Harvard,at least,if you're a full professor you're making *much* more than minimum wage.I heard today or yesterday that full professors there make in the hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

I wonder if Gates will sue. After all, consider the facts as presented by HIS side.

Passer-by calls police claiming two men are trying to break in to Gates’ house.
Two men ARE trying to break into Gates’ house.
Cop responds to call (as he’s required to do).
Gates immediately get belligerent and accuses him of racism.
Cop demands ID (as he’s required to do).
Gates presents ID.
Cop leaves.
Gates continues to berate and insult the cop as he’s leaving.
Gates continues to berate and insult the cop after the cop is already out the door.
Cop arrests Gates.

That’s the version of the story I’ve heard, mostly according to friends of Gates. I haven’t even heard claims that the cop was yelling, insulting, etc (Maybe he was. I was surprised to not see claims that he was, but maybe Gates wanted to focus attention more on the “arrest in my own home” than “I got into a fight with a cop”.) Now, the cop might have been wrong; it’s not illegal to criticize a cop.

BUT... if you piece all the reports of Gates’ story together, it makes Gates look really bad. If he’s wise, he’ll continue to let his surrogates take information out of context to milk it for all it’s worth and avoid having a detailed, minute-by-minute accounting of exactly what happened get put on the record.

Stupid? No.It's his intelligence that makes him as dangerous as he is.I think "amoral" would have been a better word for you to have used.
