-- On Monday, March 10, 1794, during the height of young Republics neutrality crisis, the Senate ordered: That the Secretary purchase Blackstones Commentaries, and Vattels Law of Nature and Nations, for the use of the Senate. This purchase order for these first books that the Senate bought was apparently the only books the Senate ordered in the eighteenth century
-- The first American edition was published in New York in 1796 (SEE THAT EDITION BELOW). Vattels book, according to Benjamin Franklin as early as 1775, was continually in the hands of the members of our Congress now sitting.
Thanks for posting that. I have heard about this definition by Vattel but this is the first time I have seen it.

This crucial evidence as to the Framers’ intent is of such supreme importance to this debate that it deserves a posting of its own.
Source that cite (it obviously came from somewhere else, since “SEE THAT EDITION BELOW” is left hanging), and then start a thread in Bloggers & Personal. Doesn’t matter where you put it, it’ll show up on the main screen on the “Articles” tab or the “Comments” tab, and will be seen. I say “Bloggers & Personal” so you won’t get flamed for a vanity in News & Activism.
