The whole argument is not about gaining coverage for Americans or illegals. The fact is that Medicare is broke. Completely.
Interest payments alone that we owe foreign governments on the debt will throw us into an untenable position.
The Federal Government is broke.
They need to raise lots of cash quickly and are using this smoke screen is the way to do it.

I keep waiting for anyone with a bully pulpit ANYWHERE to say something about the fact that 30 Million of the uninsured aren’t supposed to be here anywhere. Or anyone anywhere to say “Want to cut expenses and fix something - start with the CHIP program and Medicare - let’s see some results with what you already have and then we’ll take a look at what you’ve done in a year or so.
