He was banned but it looks like the account is active again but he hasn’t posted since 8/3. I don’ know why the mod didn’t see what everyone else saw, including Jim R.
I don’t know the history. I don’t know if Saquin contributes, goes to FR events, etc. All I know is that if you check past posts, he changed over a period of 12 years. That’s a long time. I don’t think he was a subtle troll for that many years.
It seems he changed around 2004. If you check past posts he was raving about Obama’s speech then. Each year after that, he became increasingly argumentative and liberal. There is not a doubt in my mind he is a huge Obama fan and voted for him.
He hides behind his cloak of “long time FR member”. I’ve seen troll on other forums that have years behind them but they are still trolls and everyone knows it. They just fly under the radar. When they almost cross the line, they disappear for few days and come back, post a few semi nice posts then go right back to their low key snarkiness again.
I have a friend that has several names he uses on DU. He’s a solid Conservative Republican. He manages to keep those names by being subtle. If I sign up there, I get deleted just because I’m a newbie. If I use one of his, I can say the same thing and not get deleted. Bottom line, many trolls hide behind their “long time member status”. Still does not mean they aren’t a troll.

I appreciate the fact that it is a difficult job to moderate this forum and the Mods must take one’s longevity into account to determine if someone might be a troll. Mods jump from abuse notice to direct posts to see what is going on and take action where appropriate. Much of it I’m sure is very childish and I know I’ve been caught up in a few less than stellar displays of internet squabbling. I could have also used better judgement in calling Saquin out to the Mod, i.e. a private message.
It’s a privilege to post on FR not a right and we should all respect that privilege.
Saquin’s posting history is obviously that of an Obama supporter. Saquin now knows they are being watched by Jim Rob, the Mods and other FReepers.
I am sad that I cannot attend the Free Republic convention however I will watch for future events.
