The U.S. State Department made it clear Tuesday that Jewish neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem are “settlements,” which U.S. President Barack Obama has called “illegitimate."
Reporters covering the daily State Department press briefing have recently asked tough-than-usual questions concerning what they see as the United States trying to determine the future borders of a Palestinian Authority state instead of allowing Israel and the PA to negotiate directly.

Obama met with Hamas first and asked them what they wanted. Now he is basically dictating the terms to Israel. I think the endgame here is that Obama is not going to divide Jerusalem, but rather hand it over in one piece to the Arabs.
This will only end in disaster as poltical pressure at home builds on Bibi. There was no honeymoon for Obama in Israel like there was here. Israelis dislike him in large numbers. Much of that has to do with his actions as he took office starting with an outright ban on new ‘settlements,’
Obama is no friend of Israel and the Israelis know it. Israel will find another channel to stop Obama, though. More than likely, they will work on Congress but they may not be able to get anything done there until after 2010.
Israel is in for some very dark times between now and then.
