A friend of several community canvassers at the center of a voter registration fraud scandal told an investigator he might have submitted as many as 100 registrations in his own name to help the workers meet daily quotas.
"He said he was just trying to help them out. He felt bad for them because they had a quota system," Allegheny County Detective Robert F. Keenan testified about his interview with Bryan Williams, 23, of McKeesport.
After a hearing Monday in Pittsburgh Municipal Court, Senior District Judge Edward Tibbs ordered Williams to stand trial on charges of obstruction and interference with county election workers. Williams is the seventh person ordered to trial in an investigation of voter registration efforts by ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
State law prohibits quotas for voter registration workers. ACORN has denied that it used quotas. Some of those charged in the investigation have said they were told they would be fired if they did not meet the daily quotas.
The evidence presented to Tibbs yesterday centered on 20 applications submitted in Williams' name, with 17 of them occurring last year in advance of the 2008 general election.
Diane Boscia, a manager in the county elections department, said each of the applications had to be reviewed and processed by county workers as part of the normal process.
Brian Merce, the public defender representing Williams, said his client was just trying to help his friend and had no intention of committing fraud or violating any laws.
"The intent is not there," Merce said.

The intent will not be there when Mr. Williams meets Bubba in jail, either.
While they are looking at ACORN in PA Id like to know why these 2 black walnuts were allowed to intimidate people outside a polling place last November.
Those two creeps should be dead already.
Can't WAIT to see this on the news this evening...oh wait...
Imagine the gerrymandering that will go after the ACORN assisted census.
I wish they would try that at my poll. It would be their last blocking of the poll.
“he might have submitted as many as 100 registrations in his own name to help the workers meet daily quotas. “
He MIGHT have........
WHA . . . !!!????
ACORN AND vote fraud????
Oh, say it ain’t so!!!
/sarc
NOT!
To his attorney: BS
Walnuts, I thought they were extras from “Planet of the Apes”.
DO THIS When ACORN census takers show up on your property, call the police. Tell ACORN you dont want anyone involved in criminal activities anywhere near you...... AND that you, yourself, DO NOT get involved in criminal activities.
PASS THE WORD---HERE'S WHAT TO DO: Have pad and pencil ready. Before ACORN attempts to get your info, you get their name, ID number, name of their immediate supervisor and location of their employment. Tell them you are reporting this to L/E and are storing copies with your lawyer.
===============================================
Most frightening is the WH colluding with ACORN to control the census----getting its hands on strategic info to be used for political purposes. The calculated Rahm Emanuel is manipulating the census using replies to build a permanent Dem majority. Americans are supposed to be counted. ACORN census takers will cook the books and enshrine illegal hyphanates as the "new majority" (a political goal of the Obamatons).
ACTION Call your Congressman and Senators at 202-225-3121 and object to this invasion of your privacy by corrupt thugs who could make use of your private info. MESSAGE State that you will not become an accessory to a crime that makes use of private information for identity fraud.......and that you object to ACORN'S invasion of privacy.
You might also video and snap pics of the ZCORN census takers, They just HATE that, and they cant do a thing about it -ITS ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY!!

'Go after ACORN,' judge says

A district judge who held another ACORN worker for trial Monday on election law violations urged prosecutors to go after the real culprit, the organization that employed him. "Somebody has to go after ACORN," Senior District Judge Richard H. Zoller said about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. "It's happening all over the country. All you have to do is turn on the television," he said, referring to voter registration fraud charges brought recently against ACORN and its workers in Nevada.
"We will," Allegheny County Detective Robert F. Keenan promised as he wrapped up his testimony. A spokesman for DA Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said following the hearing that the county's investigation into members of ACORN and their activities during the 2008 campaign "remains open and active."
