Let’s see. From reading the responses on this thread, it appears 1) black helicopter pilots are incompetents who crash and kill their occupants (#3), 2) being a woman she is only a token (#5), 3) as a woman pilot she must be a lesbian (#15).
A great hue and cry goes out every time freeperland is vilified on other websites for being the home of knuckledraggers, but it appears that the wound is sometimes self inflicted.
But it does make for fun reading.
Why is she there as a token? What makes you think she isn't there because she's an excellent pilot and an outstanding Marine officer? Or don't you think it's possible for a girl to fly as well or better than the guys?
She’s a Marine, enough said - Semper Fi. My only problem with the story is that there probably is a Larry Sinclair mispelling of ferrying.
LOL — no affirmative action pilots available?
Wowsers!!! A Woman Marine who is a looker!!!
I’d fly with her, too.
(Can’t help wondering if Michelle Zero was consulted before Major Grieves was selected to fly the chopper!)
Wonderful.
Anything to add, skydancer? What aircraft are you rated for?
You and Reagan69 think that she’s a looker? I guess beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm guessing you haven't seen too many WMs.
Sorry; I just couldn’t resist the attempt at humor.

No issues here. Just an observation.
First off, thank you and God bless you for your service.
Secondly, people are not used to statements of the obvious on this subject. What is my proof that the Maj. Grieves was not the most qualified? None. But I put her assignment in the context of the story, which states that she was flying an all-female crew. Applying your test, what are the chances that these three individuals were the most qualified of either sex in the entire Marine Corps? I hate to be blunt, but the answer is zero. It would be close to zero that the 3 most qualified crew members were all red-headed males. That's leaving aside any statistically significant sex differences that would on the whole give an edge to males. You know what those are better than I do. Spatial relations? Judgment under pressure? You tell me.
Just on the averages, no matter how much you admire particular female pilots, the crew was put together for show. It's cute. It's also corrupting to the military ethic in just the way that military personnel whom I know resent like crazy. It's the use of the military as a diversity toy that resulted in the promotion of Lt. Kara Hultgren, the first woman to pilot an F-14, who sadly lost her life in 1994 when she missed a carrier landing. I trust that the Pentagon has learned a few things since the last time we had a Democrat President, and that Maj. Grieves herself was better served by the officers who tested her than Lt. Hultgren was. But the All-Girl-Orchestra deal is silly.
I've been flying since I was 14 - started in sailplanes ..... and fly Air Combat USA for fun ....
Fwiw, I saw a program about Air Force One awhile back, it was either on Dicovery, TLC or the History Channel.
They interviewed the Air Force pilot that flew Nixon out west, (San Clemente I believe), after he resigned.
Nixon had a picture taken of the crew of AF1 along with him and his wife Pat.
Nixon thanked them all for the years of service they had provided.
It was obviously a moving moment for the pilot.
