Health Care Mythology

What We Know That Ain’t So

Will Rogers famously said, “It isn't what we don't know that gives us trouble, it's what we know that ain't so.” So it is with the health care debate in this country. Quite a few “facts” offered to the public as truth are simply wrong and often intentionally misleading. It seems clear that no truly productive solution will emerge when these false facts represent our common starting point. So, this essay takes on the modest task of simply disabusing its readers of some untrue notions about health care.

Obama's health care plan, like all of his plans, is an unconstitutional power grab by an abject marxist ideologue.

Fundamental problem here is the nature of the dialogue. Most of us here at FR presume a dialogue about “healthcare” is, indeed, just that.

HOWEVER...for the DEMS it has NOTHING to do with Healthcare...just like Cap and Trade has NOTHING to do with “climate change” “global warming” or whatever.

The topics are merely excuses to figure out additional ways to hamstring the productive....

Call it what it is— DeathCare or AuschwitzCare. Not one of these Elitists care one iota about your health. It’s ultimate power they crave; power over your life and power over your death. They’re no better than any Nazi camp commandant.

Wait until the liberals out there that are worshipping Obama realize that their “lifestyle” is going to be heavily regulated under DeathCare ...

What, I can’t have promiscuous sex with multiple partners and the government will be responsible for curing me?

What, I can’t take as much and as many drugs as I want and the government is responsible for saving me from myself?

Sorry, Spanky, your chosen lifestyle costs too much. Time to make an “end of life” appointment with that government counselor.

I think he's wrong as far as Canadian drug costs are concerned. It is argued that if the U.S. citizens could buy drugs on the world (Canadian) market, the drug manufacturers would lose the subsidy the U.S. citizens pay to recoup their R&D costs and the result of this would be no further R&D. That's silly. The result would be that the Canadians would be forced to pay their share of these costs and prices to U.S. consumers could be lowered. Canadians cannot "force" drug manufacturers to sell to them at a specified price. The Canadians need the drugs as much as the manufacturers need the revenue.

Opening the markets would make everyone pay market price and the Canadians would no longer be subsidized and the U.S. consumer would no longer get screwed.

Another myth for the list: "preventative care lowers overall costs"

Mostly preventative care is code for the medical establishment trolling for deep pockets insurers like the government to provide a steady income stream from costly medical interventions. Far too many drugs and procedures are substituted for lifestyle changes.

If someone wants to die from smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, etc, a private insurer should raise their rates. The government has business managing lifestyles and certainly none pushing medical remedies of any sort.

That will be the day. It is much more likely that we will end up paying for billions of condoms for 12 year olds and also expensive STD treatments for 14 year olds.

All I’ve heard is the shrieking about what a mess health care is in, even by Republicans. I have no complaints about my health care whatsoever. Granted, it’s expensive, but so are new cars and Madonna concerts, and I don’t hear anyone complaining about them.

"Granted, it’s expensive, but so are new cars and Madonna concerts, and I don’t hear anyone complaining about them."

I also find food and shelter to be expensive. Perhaps I should demand a right to them, (in addition to new cars and Madonna concerts).

I guess it is some what ironic but I got a newletter from my"Representative" Susan Davis D
and she was promoting "Healthcare reform a Priority"

I sent this response:
I received your newsletter and I am forced to send this email even though I realize that you will never read it.
One of your staff will determine that I as a voter, can complain about everything I have complained about before and will make the decision that they can handle it.

My sister married and moved to Canada and lives under the Government program, she almost died because she could not get a doctors appointment, her husband brought her down to the states and she is still alive.

You and all of the house sign on to the same coverage that we get, ok, however that is not going to happen. I am a 30% disabled veteran and as I read it I will lose my Va Medical.

The cap and trade is also a travesty, everything that moves, cools or heated will increase in price in order to cure a non existent global warming. It only lets the algores get rich program. I will do my best to campaign against you if you vote for this stuff.

Best regards Steve I will be faxing this to her as well as boxo'rocks and not so feinstein
