White House Plans to Use DeMint's "Waterloo" Quote to Rally the Troops
Political Punch ABC News ^ | July 19, 2009 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 07/19/2009 7:42:12 PM PDT by DukeBillie

On Friday, on a "Conservatives for Patients Rights" conference call with conservative activists dealing with health care reform, Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., said, as Ben Smith at Politico reported, "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him."

You should expect to hear that quote this week from the White House as they use it to rally their troops, a White House official tells ABC News.

Officials will say the people being "broken" are the American people going bankrupt paying for health insurance premiums that increase 10 percent every year, the source says, and that those who want to use this issue to break the president are doing nothing but working for insurance companies and insurance executives.

DeMint said he could "almost guarantee you this thing won't pass before August, and if we can hold it back until we go home for a month's break in August...Senators and Congressmen will come back in September afraid to vote against the American people."

This week President Obama will continue to push for the House and Senate to pass health care reform bills before the August recess. Administration officials say his newest goal: getting the Senate Finance Committee to report out a bill by Friday. That's right, THIS Friday.

Obambi is more like Genseric (King of the Vandals) than Napoleon. His hordes are looting, pillaging, and raping the country.

They’re going to try to “Alinsky” DeMint as part of their mission to Alinsky all of us.

Can save a lot of time and move very quickly when you don't have to read them. Hell, don't even have to print them.

Message to GOP: just stop the disastrous socialized medicine drive by the Democrats. Let the pundits come up with the bulletin board material.

IMO, Zero and his White House thugs have awakened a “sleeping Giant” as did Yamamoto and they have under-estimated the will of the American people big time.

WTH can’t the GOP opposition make defeating this horrendous bill about what’s good for the American people, not making it a personal or partisan issue (as obama is doing, making this legislation all about himself)

I wish DeMint had been a little more circumspect in his comments. He could have touted a GOP alternative instead of sounding like the GOP is against health care reform. It really gives the Dems some ammo. Party of NO is not good politics.

Well, they could play off the party of no thing. As in No, we will not vote against of the American people. No, we will not vote for taxpayer funded abortions. No, we will not vote for mandatory death counseling for senior citizens. No, we will not vote for paying for illegal aliens. And on and on and on. NO! We will not let Obama rush through another freedom stealing law before we have read it and before the American people can talk to their representatives and Senators over the August recess. So, yes, we are the party of no when out of control politicians try to pass budget busting laws.

The GOP should be against health care "reform" as no where in the Constitution does it authorize CONgre$$ to dictate health care for US citizens.

It really gives the Dems some ammo.

OFCOL -- the fact that a republican breathes gives them ammo because WE and the ENEMEDIA allow and promote it!

Party of NO is not good politics.

Oh, I don't know...it worked pretty well for the rats!

If the WH wants to use this as a stick to clobber the Republicans, then DeMint should demonstrate where the Obama care wants to cut TRICARE and MEDICARE, and where it mandates mandatory counseling to seniors to convince them to go for euthanasia. DeMint, and so many other Republicans have a fantastic chance to bash the Democrats with this monstrosity. But will they?

I certainly hope so!! The percentage of people going bankrupt because of medical bill is so minuscule, it shouldn't even be counted. Sure it happens, always has, but the vast majority is because of energy prices skyrocketing for 2 years, and people losing their jobs.

DeMint just did a damn fool thing. Make it about what is right for America and Americans and not about Zero’s Waterloo (though I would dance on his political grave with extreme prejudice).

Why not let trade groups collectively negotiate for health benefits? Tort reform I(pipe dream)? Stop indigents from suing docs and hospitals for service they don’t even pay for? Allow health insurance purchase across state lines? Aren’t there some things that can be done to improve things instea of destroy, create and increase cost and taxes?

Thank you. Fed control of health care is not consttutional. And I don’t give a damn what some law professor, judge or justice says. O and the dems are going to regret their breathtaking overreach. Their is bloody anger out here.

Health insurance premiums rising 10% a year? I doubt that anyone would complain if that was all it was. Ours went up 27% this year, and my small company had to cancel this benefit. We contacted a private broker and found private, individual policies for everyone. There were 2 people who were uninsurable because of pre-existing conditions and we got them State sponsored high risk insurance.

Bottom line? All of the policies are better than what we had in our group policy. Plus, they are individually owned and portable. And they cost about one third of the old group policy.

Of course, as an employer Obama will try to put me out of business for this solution...
