U2 frontman Bono admitted he dodged a hug from President George W. Bush -- and was praised by then-Sen. Barack Obama for the skillful sidestep.
In an interview on BBC's "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross," Bono said he sidestepped an embrace from President Bush during a photo op at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2006, according to Irish Central.
"What I was doing there," Bono said, motioning to a photo showing the singer shaking hands with a grinning President Bush, "I was dodging the hug and trying to hide behind the podium."
The event was attended by thousands -- including then-Sen. Barack Obama.
"When I sat down, I was sitting besides Sen. Obama, soon to be President," Bono recalled, "and he just said, 'Nice work with the hug dodge.'"

It would appear that Bono is getting ready to dunn Obama for another round of taxpayers’ dollars on Africa’s behalf and that belittling Bush will increase amount. I will think better of him, though, if he also dodges Obama’s hug and tells the world that he did so. Then it may be believable if he was trying to keep the “political photo-op” aspect out of his cause.
He just proved to me that he is a BIGGER JERK than I already thought he was. He clowns right along with the rest of them.
Why does he need to hug President Bush? I bet you would dodge Obama right? Why do the liberals have to hug President Bush but conservatives don’t have to hug Obama. This does not make sense and is pretty dang hypocritical.
When you hug Obama I will agree with your statement.
It’s been Bedtime for Bono for almost two decades now.
Bono may have ducked a hug from Bush, but at least th Russians respected Bush enough to shakle his hand.
They left the big eared fool standing there with his hand out looking like Alfred E. Neuman
“What is it with hugs anyways?
Whatever happened to a pat on the back or a handshake?”
Thank you! That’s what I say!
A firm handshake with good eye contact is all you need.
If any Atlanta freepers would like to protest his concert here October 6, email me. The Irish like a good fight! Lets do it!
Whose money, his or ours?
(end sarcasm)
I thought Bono was supposed to be only concerned with Africa, not politics. Screw that damned low life, nothing from me, thats for sure.
I heard the same thing about Bono’s lack of cleanliness.
I think it is some Little House on the Prairie thing.
Real grown-ups don’t hug each other.
How Angelina, Bono, Gisele and Madonna Are Destroying the Planet
By Vanessa Richmond, The Tyee. Posted July 17, 2009.
The carbon emissions of Bono’s band’s world tour are equivalent to the waste created by 6,500 average British or Irish people in an entire year.
Last week, Carbon Footprint calculated the impact of U2’s world tour. Ironically, U2 is outspoken about their commitment to the environment, but carbon output of their tour this year is far bigger even than Madonna’s high-maintenance carbon-heavy tour. U2’s carbon emissions will equal that of 90,000 people flying from Dublin to London, and are equivalent of the waste created by 6,500 average British or Irish people in an entire year (equal to leaving a standard 100 watt light bulb on for 159,000 years). “To offset this year’s carbon emissions, U2 would need to plant 20,118 trees.”

Bono Confesses Sins To ‘Father’ Al Gore

Having climate campaigner Al Gore round to your house is to open yourself to a self-flagellating guilt trip, Irish rock star Bono confessed Thursday....
...”He’s been round my house and it’s like... here’s the recycler Al, you know... I’ve got a posh car, but it runs on ethanol Al,” Bono said. Acknowledging that a career in rock music was not always conducive to a green lifestyle, Bono compared a conversation with Gore to an act of religious contrition. “It’s like being with an Irish priest. You start to confess your sins,” he said. “Father Al, I am not just a noise polluter, I am a noise-polluting, diesel-soaking, gulfstream-flying rock star.
Humongous Carbon Footprint Blows Apart Bono, U2s Dubious Environmental Concerns
During a nearly two week tour of Africa in May of 2002 by Bono (real name Paul David Hewson, the lead singer of the rock band U2) and then U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul ONeill, Bono made a crack about the secretary saying he is, the man in charge of Americas wallet and I want to open that wallet.
In other words the singing Irishman was saying the American taxpayers should be compelled to shovel even more of their hard earned money across the Atlantic ocean into the coffers of corrupt African government officials so the funds can be used to make the ruling elite even wealthier while the citizens of these countries continue to live in squalor. In fact Bono is famous for badgering governments, especially the U.S., into using their citizens tax dollars to fund poor (read African) nations social programs and for all wealthy governments to simply swallow hard and eat all the debt owed to them by these so called Third World countries.
(Before going any further here take about three minutes and read through this interesting piece.)
For those who didnt know, back in 2006 Bono, along with the other members of his band whos combined worth then was estimated to be somewhere north of 700 million dollars, decided to move a nice chunk of their business enterprise out of Ireland to the Netherlands for the sole purpose of saving a bundle on taxes.
What is it with popstars dressing like dictators, anyway?
Of course, I’m using the Old English version of ‘dun’........I didn’t think anyone would believe me, but I had to try. I know, I know, spell-check is our friend.
