On reflection, I may have misread your ideology as negativism, instead of utopianism. You seem inclined to see ‘good government’ as ‘beautiful’. It’s not. Government is always ugly...always ‘the problem, not the solution’ as Reagan said. Therefore the brilliant part of the strategy must be to maintain a de minimus federal government so as not to become too big a problem...and always, always, first do no harm. We may need to swing the pendullum back to ‘too small’ with the foreknowledge that it’s likely to someday grow back to ‘too big’ no matter how hard we try to hold back the reins of a nanny state population.
