In mature scientific fields, absent evidence that cannot be integrated into the existing paradigm, consensus is what is assumed to be, an operates as, truth. And 500 years from now, if we make it that far, people will bust a gut laughing at that assessment of science as we know it today.
Consensus is NEVER the means to determine truth. Truth stands alone and is not determined by popular opinion.
500 years ago the church was burning heretics at the stake. We're all “bust(ing) a gut” about that now, aren't we.
