The "most trusted man in America"...

....lied to us about Vietnam.

That's what I'll remember about him.

Well I extend my condolences to his family. For me Walter Cronkite was part of my families evening routine. We eat dinner around 6 and after eating dinner and reading the Bible after dinner everyone went into the living room to watch the CBS Evening News.

I remember his last newscast. I was a student at Ohio State and a few of us went down to the tv room at our dorm and watched the news. I know since then alot of us have been upset with him due to his zanny liberalism which was caused by G W Bush winning the presidency. But he was a fixture in american life if you were of age back then.

Let’s see, I was in the army when he was reporting on the Vietnam war and when he was reporting on Nixon.

I bet the mods are keeping a careful eye on this thread.

he liked the war early in the JFK and LBJ Admin. Never forget that Vietnam was JFK and LBJ’s war. The main objective was to make LBJ even richer. He went in the White House wealthy and left the second wealthiest President after Washington. George was estimated inflation adjusted with his land holdings to be a billionaire. Washington risked it all in the Revolutionary War.

Some people think LBJ had JFK whacked because JFK was going to pull out of Nam. If so - it was motivated by LBJ’s unsatiable greed. The companies LBJ owned or was a major shareholder did very very well in Vietnam.

I still remember this "All In The Family" episode:

Archie: Edith, what channel is the CBS News?

Edith: Channel 2, the one we never watch because you said Walter Cronkite is a Communist.

After the U.S. evacuated Vietnam, there was nothing to stop old animosities between the Cambodians and Vietnamese from turning hot. Here’s a description of what happened in Ba Chuc.

“On April 30, 1977, Pol Pot’s troops launched a surprise attack on 13 villages in eight Vietnamese border provinces. Ba Chuc was the hardest hit. The massacre was at its fiercest during the 12 days of occupation, April 18-30, 1978, during which the intruders killed 3,157 villagers. The survivors fled and took refuge in the pagodas of Tam Buu and Phi Lai or in caves on Mount Tuong, but they were soon discovered. The raiders shot them, slit their throats or beat them to death with sticks. Babies were flung into the air and pierced with bayonets. Women were raped and left to die with stakes planted in their genitals.”

There were two survivors to the massacre.

Cronkite didn’t cover it on the CBS evening news.

As judged by subsequent events, Cronkite was wrong. And over time, his words became a watershed marking the place where the gradual erosion of the MSM’s credibility began.

RIP. He was the Brontosaurus of the Dinosaur media. They will be lamenting his passing and somewhat their own, slower demise all weekend. Those left are just waiting on the meteor to hit.

Archie Bunker Pictures, Images and Photos

Always watched NBC News in those days, I still remember the running joke of Archie Bunker chunking stuff at the TV when he came on though.

I never really cared for Walter Cronkite. And now there’s no Walter Cronkite for me not to care about.

Payers for him - but he was a strident Atheist until he died.

I don't wish that on him, but it is what it is.

He HATED God. Hated Him.

Walter Cronkite, for very good reasons the heartthrob of wholesome America, has sent out a letter for general circulation in behalf of "The Interfaith Alliance." The letter's purpose is to ask recipients of it to send money to the Alliance in order to combat the Christian Coalition. Mr. Cronkite intro- duces himself (as if that were necessary) by saying that in years gone by he needed to conceal his own strong opinions but now that he is no longer the anchorman of CBS, he feels free to ventilate these opinions.

I can post whatever documentation you wish about that.

Still - prayers for his soul - and good luck with what you believed Walter.

If you are in Hell now - you now know Eternal Suffering and what it means to be wrong. Christ could have helped you.

But not now. You made your choice.

How terrible.
