Well just Damn! My $500.00 air conditioner I bought a few years ago just went Kaput and it takes ...R-22. And the one I replaced it with takes...R-22. The old one still works perfectly, just will not cool.

Somehow when I saw the title of this thread I had a sick feeling it was about air conditioners.
