I think it’s hilarious when pinheaded politicians try to rename roads, buildings, and parks - only to have them still largely referred to by their original designations decades later.

Somewhat recently, the Triboro Bridge in NYC has been renamed the RFK Bridge... I don't know of anyone that calls it the RFK; Triboro just rolls off the tongue easier.
