(Photos) Africans Living in Guangzhou Protest: Suspect a Fellow African of Being Killed by a Police Officer
Boxun reports that at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday July 15, a large group of Africans gathered in Guangzhou's Guangyuan West Road to protest. They held up bloodstained clothing, and stated that they suspect a police officer of killing a fellow African. A large number of police were mobilized to maintain order.
Guangzhou has approximately 200,000 Africans living there, most living illegally in the Panju Xiaobeilu and Sanyuanli areas. The protest caused traffic congestion in Guangzhou's western district, more than 100 police were required to direct traffic.

From the Reuters article,
A Nigerian businessman who gave his name as Emeka said there was no violence, only shouting and the occasional scuffle, and estimated the number of mainly Nigerian protesters at about 100.
Nigerians are everywhere.

Do you have any idea how 200,000 Africans managed to get to Guangzhou? The Chinese are spending huge amounts of money and developing massive infrastructure in Africa in order to get at their wealth of natural resources.
No doubt there are many Africans who have been able to take advantage of that pipeline.

A lot of video of this on last nights 'news' programming here. The africans were out in very large numbers. They were quite aggressive in facing down the Chinese police with their protests. I did not see any actual violence, although that may have just been edited out. The africans also were quite vocal, in Chinese, and made certain to get interview time with the reporters there covering the demonstrations.
My wife and I were both surprised at the large numbers of africans out and about...looked to be several thousand.
They all appeared to be quite large and well-fed. Dressed well also.
The gist was the africans were protesting the local police checking for their non-existent immigration papers. They were all illegally in the country.
They seemed to be of the opinion that their lack of legal status should not be a reason for stopping or questioning by the local police.
Imagine that.
By the way...Guanzhou is a filthy polluted cess-pool of a city. Sewers over flowing onto the sidewalks and thousands of displaced workers sleeping on the streets. Ripe for civil unrest.
