She remained mostly on the sidelines, And, according to the books she wrote about the fictional experience of a presidential daughter, "Double Exposure: A First Daughter Mystery" and "Sharp Focus," the protagonist stays mostly apart from politics. IMO, the Ford children were the best behaved of all the first children. You never found them in bars partying while inebriated (Jena and Barbara), or getting kicked out of the Navy for smoking pot (Jimmah Carter's son Jack), or playing political footsie with the RATS (Patti Davis Reagan), or shaking up with boyfriends (Chelsea Clinton).
