Water is a state and local responsibility. Even if it were federal, wasn't some the $700+ billion stimulus package supposed to be used for infrastructure? I didn't realize that only people earning more than $250K spend money on soap, toilet paper, and cooking oil.

Republicans don't do as well with female as male voters. Women do most of the grocery shopping, and I don't think it would poll well with them. Republicans should stop being "bipartisan" and blast it.

Opposition to a water tax could be one of many themes for the Tea Parties.

But, but, but....

The MSM says the GOP can't be the party of "no".

“Manufacturers of any water-based beverages, EXCLUDING alcohol...”

Thank, Goodness! I was worried for a minute there! That’s good news because I know I’VE been drinking a lot more to numb the pain since the last election; hasn’t everyone? ;)

I have a radical idea.... if cities need more money for water and sewers, they could (now don't plug your ears until you hear the whole thing) raise water and sewer rates to pay for it. Yes, I know it sounds crazy at first, but those who use more of the service would pay more for the service.

Can’t wait to tell Husband about THIS new tax! He already mocks me for my toilet paper obsession.

I grew up poor and sometimes TP was a LUXURY! Then I spent 20 years in the Army, and when you’re using the woods as your bathroom, there’s no TP hanging off a tree branch like there is in a Charmin commercial, LOL! (Note to today’s soldiers; always keep a roll of TP in your duffle bag or field pack, inside a ziplock bag. Trust me on this...TP is GOLD when it’s scarce and worth more than a pack of smokes in prison.)

When I get down to 8 rolls on hand I stock up again. In fact, I told my Dad to stop buying me frivolous gifts and buy me practical things, so he bought me a case of TP as my Christmas gift one year, LOL!

Who says that politicians only pass taxes on the little folk while exempting themselves. (Social Security Medicare)

Why Congresscritters should be praised if the bill goes through since they will be among the biggest taxpayers. After all, they use the most toilet paper since they are full of - - - -.

Since when is this a federal problem. If we grant for the sake of argument that this is a fee rather than a tax, why can’t states and localities (the ones that pay for water and sewer infrastructure) institute this or put it to the voters if needed?

Soap and toilet paper store well. Stock up before they get taxed.

Hey, I have a well and septic! I pay to have my poop pumped by a licensed poop pumper, and the waste water goes right back into the ground so others further down the aquifer can use it in a few years.

Let each city decide how to renovate their own infrastructure, who the decided this was a federal issue anyway?

You are exactly right that water and sewer are local responsibilities. I have to pay for the sewer service in my area, it makes no sense for someone in Milwaukee to pay for mine and me to pay for theirs. Other than to build a giant bureaucracy to administer a new federal program, and to provide another slush fund to fill a money trough for political cronies to guzzle from, this serves no purpose.

The Feds already have many unfunded mandates to municipalities for stormwater and sewers under the Clean Water Act and its many amendments. (I know, I’m a municipal officeholder). Sure, I’d love to have federal dollars to pay for what they require us to do. But it’s not a good idea, and because we will have to pay for the federal bureaucracy that oversees this program, our community and all other ones (except for those with connections and power in DC) will be “donor communities.” We won’t get back money in the same amount as we are taxed.

It’s just wrong.

The soap tax won’t bother leftists. They usually don’t bathe and certainly stink up the place at their demonstrations. I went to one in L.A. and got no takers when I offered free soap. There was at least one honest young leftist protestor in the group. He had a sign — NO BLOOD FOR OIL. When I asked him how he got to the demonstration, he said, “OK, I’m a hypocrite. I drove my car.”

Well... At the rate TOTUS is printing money, you won’t need to buy toilet paper. You can just stock on paper up at the bank.

A. Local issue, not federal.

B. States and localities have been collecting taxes for maybe 225 years to support municipal projects sush as water and sewage. There does not need to be an additional tax.
