SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) — A summit of the Non-Aligned Movement opened at this Egyptian Red Sea resort town Wednesday with a call from Cuban President Raul Castro for a new international financial system to shield developing nations from the global recession.

Castro was addressing the opening session of the movement's two-day summit at Sharm el-Sheikh, the 15th such gathering since the group was founded in the 1950s.

"We demand the establishment of a new international financial and economic structure that relies on the participation of all countries," Castro said. "There must be a new framework that doesn't depend solely on the economic stability and the political decision of only one country," the Cuban leader said, apparently referring to the United States.

The new system, he said, must give developing countries "preferential treatment." He did not elaborate.

Do you think it will cost us less if we get involved? Do you have any idea what kind of delegation our President would send to this kind of summit?

Why should any country get preferential treatment? Today’s economic order would be just fine - the largest economy has the biggest say.

This makes no sense, we should be able to attend.... now. We are no longer aligned with the United States. I can't exactly tell you who we are aligned with, but with our new buddies, Zelaya's Honduras, Chavez, Castro, Putin, Il, Nutjob... surely they would now help us out and get us passed the bouncers to attend it.

Instead, we need to build a new force for intervention, in order to effect the removal of the despots who crush liberty and prosperity -- they do go hand in hand -- in the (un)developing world. Let's start by giving preferential treatment for the Castro dynasty.
