Wrong, Georgian troops bombed and took over Tskhinvali(South Ossetian capital). Saashkashveli had an overblown ego and though he could undermine the sovereignty of South Ossetia. He thought that with Israeli weapons and American and Israeli training he could waltz in South Ossetia with no consequences and no opposition.Former British Military officers and UK monitors confirmed Georgia shelled civilian areas of South Ossetia before the Russians started their bombardment.
The majority of Forces in Abkhazia were Russian Forces, russian Cossack and Abkhazian armed forces. While individual Chechens may have volunteered, it wasn’t endorsed by the Chechen government. And to assume the Russians our friends with the Chechen Terrorist Government is absurd, is that war and all those attacks on the Russian people a fraud? It doesn’t matter that the Georgians in South Ossetia are Christians, they are disloyal to South Ossetia and need to be deported to Georgia, just as the Muslim Albanians should be deported out of Kosovo.
The US State department opposes the Russian President visiting Odessia, but Obama supports it. BTW, Obama ceded Georgia to Russia when he was over there.

Chechens support Abkhaz independence because it is a step towards their goal of the establishment of a muslim Caucasian caliphate from the black sea to the Caspian. Russia has stupidly advanced this cause at Christian Georgia's expense.

It is the Ossetians who are disloyal to Georgia. They should go to Russia if they want to have Russian passports and be Russian citizens! The Ossetians were on the Bolsheviks' side in 1921 and helped them invade and Bolshevize Georgia. Now they are on the Bolsheviks' side again! Stalin was an Ossetian.
