WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney is getting a "bum rap" over reports that he ordered the CIA to withhold information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress, two former U.S. intelligence officials told CNN Monday. Former Vice President Cheney reportedly told the CIA to withhold information about a counterterrorism program. According to both officials, any intelligence program of "great sensitivity" is first approved by the White House after a series of meetings. In any such situation, once the administration decides to pursue a covert program, there is discussion on whether Congress needs to be briefed, the officials said. President George W. Bush "delegated" then-Vice President Cheney to chair many of the meetings that followed the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the officials said. At issue is CIA Director Leon Panetta's testimony last month to a congressional committee that he was told Cheney ordered the intelligence agency to withhold information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California and chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told "Fox News Sunday" that Panetta testified "he was told that the vice president had ordered that the program not be briefed to the Congress."

I endured about a minute of the NBC reporting on this then turned the TV off. It’s just like the Scooter Libby thing. We knew that the politicians were lying and the “media” went right along with the lie. Doesn’t say much for the people who decided to pursue this does it?

The problem being, much like with scum trial lawyers, is that even if Holder fails, he pays no price.
That’s it? That’s the “scandal”.
Leon Edward Panetta has further burnished his reputation as a political hack. If that’s even possible.
All he has at stake is his reputation, so you're right.
Seriously, though, politically motivated prosecution of former officials is a very dangerous precedent. The Democrats can only get away with it because the press is in the satchel for them.

That, and the fact that the current Republican “leadership” has balls the size of electrons orbiting the nucleus of the element Argon.

My guess is Panetta was told by the CIA that “President Bush ordered VP Cheney to order the intelligence agency to withhold information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress” and Mr. Panetta, being the hack he is, just left off the the President part. Factually he was correct, but he just left some of the FACTS off for convenience. Happens all the time in Democrat circles.
