Northwest flight attendants want Delta to offer bigger sizes of signature red dress uniform
ATLANTA (AP) -- The union that represents flight attendants who worked for Northwest Airlines before it was bought by Delta Air Lines is crying foul over Delta's failure to offer bigger sizes for its signature red dress uniform designed by Richard Tyler.
The Northwest chapter of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA has filed a grievance with the world's largest airline operator, asking it to offer the red dress up to size 28. The union hopes the grievance will go to mediation in August.
The red dress currently is only offered up to size 18, though a Delta spokeswoman said the airline offers a range of outfits in other colors and styles up to size 28 that flight attendants can wear.
"I think red is an eye-popping color and it's not subtle, and to me by not offering it in a size over 18, Delta is saying, 'We don't want you wearing that if you are over size 18,'" Reller said. "But the job isn't about being sexy. It's about safety."
Reller said she did not know how many pre-merger Northwest flight attendants want to wear the red dress but need a size bigger than 18.
"If the dress wasn't a tiny size 18, there would be less," Reller said. "It's a very small size 18, so that makes the numbers a lot larger."

The anti-fat chick. She was a liberal skeleton.
I don’t care which country is making them, size 28 is very, very big.
I know this because one of my Cousins (God have mercy on her Soul), was an extra plus size Lady.
I thought Michael Moore was a Michigan State fan.
“In the event of an emergency, your stewardess will become a floatation device...”
To be fair, red uniforms in a size 28 will look like a passenger on the Axiom in “Wall-E”
Oh.....cuz I wasn’t clear that conservatism meant defending obesity......
What I’ve never quite understood is how a single number represents a 3D object in any way appropriately.
Another female mystery that males will rarely, if ever, understand, I suppose.
Exactly. Which is why seriously overweight flight attendants should be grounded, and there should be no need for "plus" size uniforms. How the h#%& is a size 28 woman supposed to help evacuate an aircraft in an emergency?
The part I miss most from that pic’s era is not so much the lovely young ladies, but the comfortably-sized seats with actual room between the rows.
Yeah really. I ordered a ‘large’ choli online from India, for a dance costume. I ended up giving it to my 6 year old niece to play in, as there was no way I could put it on. Usually I wear a 12 but I am currently post-op and am wearing a size 18 sundress I bought at Walmart, simply because it was loose and comfortable for recovery. It’s not huge on me although I know I’m not a size 18. But then, I bought a couple of 16/18 tank tops because I thought they’d be really comfortable to sleep in and I’m swimming in them. They’re huge on me, but an 18 sundress isn’t. Go figure.
Which means size 18 is really size 12, which is the cut-off right now between fatso and normal sizes. I exercise over an hour a day and I am bigger than a 12 - but I can probably beat the crap out of most you guys.
Maybe it’s just me but I think the woman in the top photos looks pretty good. She’s curvy, but she has curves not bulges, a smaller waist, nice chest and hips. 18 doesn’t seem that huge, looking at that image.
In June I flew BWI/DFW/SF/Anchorage. Coming back was Anchorage/DFW/BWI. There were several attendants that were not..umm....slim.
I’d venture to guess that the largest dress size used by females on any of the Oriental airlines is a 10, perhaps only an 8. They all do a great job and look great.
ah ha. YOU’RE THE ONE!!!
Jarl Shyu, Taipei-based flight attendant in her new Delta uniform.
Not exactly the "slutty flight attendant look" Letterman was hoping for.
Yes, it’s me!!!!! But, hey, at least I bang my stuff into people with my cutest, sweetest, most innocent smile on my face. And I throw in lots of “Sorry...Sorry...Sorry”s along the way. I think people then don’t mind so much. Who could be mad at this face??? :)
That lady is a toothpick with boobs!
I can’t imagine that dress would be flattering even on a size 28 unless the lady was a TALL size 28.
